League cricket Vs Sunday Cricket

Advice needed

Midway through last season thoughts started to creep in about giving up league cricket and only playing Sundays

This would mean less cricket overall but more enjoyable cricket.

I play warks league div 5 and have had back to back promotions to get to this level but I just feel like I'm going through the motions. I really like the club I'm at but there's very little enjoyment on Saturdays.

Compare that to Sunday's where I have a hour and half drive for, more often than not, 40 over cricket and I absolutely love it

I now have a 2 year old, and have started talking about a second and part of me is wondering if that's impacting my desire to give up Saturdays

Has anyone had this? What did you do? Any advice would be great

I’ve stopped playing twice when my children were born and missed the dressing room over the game.

Started back again a few years ago and the requested of my children because they enjoy going to the club and the family atmosphere at the club.

Family first has always been my approach as you can play until you wish. Haven’t regretted missing years of playing but the frustration of not being as good as you think you were is the biggest issue about coming back to it!

Yeah, I don't want to stop completely

I'm just not sure if league cricket is for me at the moment

As long as the Sunday stuff is at a standard you’ll find fulfilling it sounds like a good move to me. Similar to the above post I had a long break whilst our kids were young and have gone back to playing Saturday 2s, and absolutely love it. Challenging and competitive enough but without being life and death stuff. I promised myself that if I was taking a day away from the family then I owed it to myself (and them) to enjoy it whether it goes well or badly, and it’s worked really nicely. Coming home grumpy after the other half has been herding the kids all day definitely isn’t an option 😬

Ultimately, cricket is a hobby.
You need to enjoy yourself and have a reason to play...

Your Mrs must be a saint if you’ve a 2 year old and still manage two games a weekend. 😁
