Is it worth getting either of my bats fixed?
« on: June 10, 2025, 02:52:10 PM »

So I have two bats now that are broken to the point I cannot use them.

One has a pencil thin crack running about 4 inches up the middle of the back of the bat from the toe. Its not visible on the front, but I think it goes right through at the toe, and the bat makes a horrible noise when you hit the ball. I've taped it but it makes no difference.

The other has a wide diagonal crack developed from the splice downwards and outwards so that there is a inch-wide, probably 6 inch long split between the splice and the shoulder of the bat. Fortunately the crack doesn't go across the centre of the bat so the blade is still firmly attached to the handle, but again obviously it can't be used in its current state. I tried to fix this one with wood glue and clamps but it only held for a few more games and then split further.

Is it worth trying to get either of these fixed, or are they just firewood? They're both B3s if that's relevant.

I've always had the approach with customers that it depends on a few factors. How attached you are to the bat? How much they were? How much life is left in them (how long before delamination etc). How confident can you be on the fix and finally, whether you can afford a new stick.

If a bat is very well used and is starting to delaminate or crack in various places, it's probably not worth the expense. If they're not, you can expect a decent amount of further use and be fairly confident the fix will hold, then it's worthwhile.

You see a lot being fixed on Instagram which I think should be firewood. If they're that bad, then I'd put the cash towards a new bat personally.

It sounds like you need to open the crack up a bit more on the one you tried to fix. Depending where it is, you may need to remove the handle to open the cracks up enough and then fit a new handle.
