Spine Height and / or Thick Edges
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:31:35 AM »

It is difficult to have both on a bat and ensure good pick up and balance. If you look at most of the pros on the TV they all seem to have chunky edges on their sticks.

But how would good old conventional edges but a larger spine differ in performance. Basic principal i guess is to have as much wood behind the ball. Comments please

I imagine the middle would be bigger, but the bat would be less forgiving.  Big edges (such as on the Joker, if I can be so cheeky...) provide a more forgiving bat, in that mis-hit shots go better than a normal mis-hit.

Perhaps Norbs could explain better..?

I'm retiring due not scoring many runs with my Laver and being accused of being a bat maker  ;)

My fusion had a high spine and regular edges, anything of the middle flew, anywhere else not so much.

So I'd high spine rewards middle shots more
Thick edges rewards more shots hit, but the middle will not be as rewarding compared to a high spined bat.

Could be wrong but thats my opinion

High Spine gives more powerful sweet spot, big edges give bigger sweet spot, both equals perfection......

I prefer using bats with small edges and a huge middle.

Im not one to go at every ball, nearly everything i hit i can middle to/over the fence.
