Toe Damage
« on: March 19, 2010, 06:22:40 PM »

Whats the best way to fix small cracks on the toe of a bat as I need to give it a repair? Ive tried wood filler but they seem to open up again. Any help would be of use, especially Craig! cheers,

Is the crack going through the bat or from side to side?

If its side to side, then I dont think there is much you can do. The cracks are so fine that there is nothing for the glue to hold on to. One thing I have started to use is Shoe Goo, a brilliant thing for the toes of cricket bats, because its waterproof and extremely hard wearing. I hope this helps mate.

From side to side.
Will have a look at shoe goo as sounds interesting! Sounds a lot easier than toe guards anyway. I suppose it would also seal it and protect it at the same time.

Exactly. The cracks I have found are caused by tapping the bat in the crease. Yes shoe goo is probably one of the better products around to use on the toe, so its definitely worth looking into. And the good thing is that if you want to remove it, it is very simple.

I have a small crack throgh the toe on an angle, managed to do it by toe ending a cut shot. Really had left a horrible dent at the bottom of my bat, oh well nurse it through the majority of this season then replace it.
