Australian Bat Makers
« on: March 22, 2010, 05:07:31 AM »

Hey Guys,
I know the majority of you don't live in Australia but I was wondering if you could help suggest some Australian Cricket companies that make their bats in Sydney, NSW to me. I am required to do work experience this year and wanted to go to a cricket companies factory.

Cheers

Not meaning to put you down stewie but there arent any small bat makiers in sydney and i doubt you would get work experience with them anyway.

Pretty much what Wilko said. And the fact that they are so small, even if they were willing to take you for work experience, there is a good chance youd have nothing to do because theyd only make bats on demand really.

Annd becasue these batmakers in Sydney are so small, they do not do it for a living so they wouldnt be in there toolshed 9-5 weekdays, theyd have another job and id say this would be somthing else they do on the side.

The only suggestion I would make is to go to Kingsgrove and ask if you can do your work experience with Simon. He is the repairman there, and covers pretty much all breakages and stuff in sydney. You might not see bats beeing made but you would see the art of cleaning them out, fixing handles, glueing down wood, rebuffing, oiling, alot of knocking in etc, and just learn about timber a bit more.

Fishers victoria, Millchamp is in victoria.

The only thing in Sydney would be whats left of Impala (that im not even sure), or sommers.

But doing it with Simon at Kingsgrove would be just as good. Learn alot about bats. Simon worked for Impala before they went bust.

I honestly doubt they will take you I think theyve stopped in most instances. Pretty much cause when its not busy , I.E soccer season, there is absolutely nothing to do really and when its so busy, they cant really do anything with you as tehy are serving customers, and if youve only been there and are going to be there for a week you wont be able to do it.

If you were to go with Simon if allowed, if you went offseason youd pretty much, have nothing to do as the bats wont be coming in as comparaed to cricket season. If you came in though, I dont know what youd really be able to do, accept watch, as I doubt youd be allowed to work on someone elses bat, accept basic stuff like applying sleeves, grips, shoo goo.

Just my knowledge with it all. You emailed head office right?

Yep, email the head office. My work experience would be in the early to mid season.
