That last one made me laugh Mike.
It is not paranoia though, its just logic to check that the crack is not more severe than it looks, I do not know enough about bats to make a judgement so I ask on here, my instinct tells me I should put an anti-scuff sheet on (Pm'd you about that BTW) but I just want to check it does not require professional treatment just to be on the safe side.

75% of bats I see returned cannot be repaired because the crack is not severe enough to be able to do anything about it, keep batting until you can't anymore, then get it repaired.

I'm sure that people worry if they have a loved bat that cost good money but you are swinging it hard at a small hard ball after all. Look all you want but unless it is bad enough to be unusable why fret?

Have a look at Sachin's bat...full of cracks but still going like the proverbial gun...And standard advice for all new bats when wanting to lengthen their lifespan is to put an anti scuff/protective face on...Simples.

But at the point at which the bat is unusable it is unlikely it can be repaired back to a playable state? Therefore if I fret and check and double check that the bat is ok and doesn't need to be repaired whenever something comes up then surely the bat will last longer?

Yes it can, if you take it early to be repaired then the bat maker will have to force any crack open and that is far worse than letting it happen naturally. It may sound alien but face the bat before use, then tape any danger areas such as the edge and toe if worried. If it cracks then use the forum, you simply upload a couple of pic's and the bat makers on here can advise same day, as good as living next door to one!!!!

Not yet but as I stated in the original post it is hard to capture the crack properly in a picture and thats why I tried to give a detailed description to explain whats happening on the bat.

This is the problem with buying pretty bats, but something ugly with crap stickers so you don't get too attached to it.

I have previously loved a bat so much I was loath to actually use it!

Has no one worked out yet that bats crack???

What is this paranoia about the slightest crack to the face? Just get on with batting and don't worry about it, all you have to do is apply a little tape if you feel like it, the best bats crack from the start.

Sub note, OIL, is it the cure all for any bat problem??? Q, my bat has a crack. A, light coat of oil. Q, my bat has lost it's ping. A, coat of oil. Q, the nuclear threat posed by Iran. A, 2 coats of oil.
I just applied hammer edge on my CA bat few days ago so should I remove it and oil it ? Also by light coat of oil do you mean whole face or just the afected area?

Thanks
