Bat Crack Help!
« on: March 30, 2010, 04:11:01 PM »

In the nets last night my bat was going really well, when I looked at it after though one of the grains in the middle seemed to have lifted slightly and was more pronounced, I can get some pictures but its hard to show. Its only about 5cm down the grain.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Al

Seems unusual! Had it been oiled?

Yeah, it is barely a crack, more just where the grain has lifted slightly.

Ok, I might just whack an anti-scuff over the top to protect it even more

I've a 3 season old CA 10000 on which all the grains are lifting. I whacked a hammer edge sheet on and it still plays quite nicely. I'd protect yours now though before it gets any worse.

It could have been one extra crap, extra cheap ball that did it in nets

I think thats probably the best course of action mate. I would recommend adding a strip of bat tape across the crack, and then put a good quality scuff sheet over the top. I had a bat last year which had something similar, and thats the course of action I took.

MY CA bat has similar problem as well. It has small crack in the middle of two grains. Right now I have applied Hammer edge so I am not sure if I did the right thing or not

I think you have. TBH a lot of pakistani bats i've seen have disintergrated sooner or later.
Good while they last though in my experience. (CA's are anyway)

I am not sure as this is my first Pakistani brand bat. As far I had heard from someone was that Asian bats are soft pressed so they tend to crack up earlier compare to others

Also I think it could be because of balls. In my old club they used crap balls (at that time I was not sure that crap balls can damage your bat). I remember a guy in that club got bran new MB Malik Sher Amin and he went to play for the first time. He then got an edge and they edge had been cracked. It was SG ball and it was solid as metal!

Has no one worked out yet that bats crack???

What is this paranoia about the slightest crack to the face? Just get on with batting and don't worry about it, all you have to do is apply a little tape if you feel like it, the best bats crack from the start.

Sub note, OIL, is it the cure all for any bat problem??? Q, my bat has a crack. A, light coat of oil. Q, my bat has lost it's ping. A, coat of oil. Q, the nuclear threat posed by Iran. A, 2 coats of oil.
