My BAS Plain Players Bat: Review
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:34:30 PM »

OK, I received this bat some weeks ago now but thought I would save a review until it had at least seen some action in the nets.

Firstly, I can only echo the praise Asad has received in other reviews concerning his service. At the time I emailed him these bats werent even for sale on his website but he recommended them based on the spec I sent him and fired off several pictures which I whittled down to the bat I finished up ordering.

As the bats were all different profiles etc. I was a little concerned about getting the right choice as I'm no big fan of excessive concaving but, with the help of Asad, I finished up with a bat arriving at my doorstep which exceeded expectation in terms of the amount of wood in it and the pickup which is excellent given the lowslung middle.

Weight 2lb9/2lb10
11 grains
White ribbed grip with cap applied to take size between a SH & LH

Its now had a good few nets after rigorous knocking in and is performing nicely. Its the first "modern" shaped bat Ive had, I could get used to "middling" stuff that hits the outer or inner third of the face! It will hopefully prove even more effective on the slower, lower grass wickets once the season gets under way.

Overall excellent service, cant knock the price, and Asad seemingly fires off emails at all hours of the day. It came with facing and toeguard and Asad kindly threw in a BAS bat cover as well. Only slight complaint would be some knicks and bumps the back of the bat suffered in transit, but that is purely aesthetic and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Asad to anyone on here or at my Club.

Pics to come...

The cap is a Gray-Nicolls product used on their carbon-handle bats. They put it on an old bat I sent for refurb with them when I told them I needed something between a short and long-handle as I am tall but with long arms! So now I stick it on whatever my match bat is for the season, extends the length a little and expands the circumference of the top few inches of the handle which I like as it is a good 'locator' for my top hand.
