Gunn and Moore
« on: April 08, 2010, 06:26:50 PM »

Just had a look in the for sale section and saw a GM Flare Limited Edition for sale had a look at the pics and considering they are in the region of 200+ they look crap, there are hardly any grains and they are very far apart, you probably pay mostly for the stickers. But i think i wouldn't buy a brand bat again because i have had a few GM, Puma, GN etc. and have been disappointed with almost all of them and they only bat i have thought is any good is the one i have now which is no big brand but very good wood.

Just saying like, but what are you guys opinions on these expensive brand name bats

I think with any major brand you will pay more due to the stickers. I agree with you that smaller brands are the way forward.

Number of grains on a bat does not always improve performance in any way, I've had bats with 6 and I've had bats with 16 and the bat with 6 was by far and away better than bats with more grains.

I would go for the GM every time with that example.

Well I have a GM flare LE with 10 grains and it plays like gold. My previous bat was a Kookaburra ICE 40 with 9 grains played awesome as well. But a bat is as good as the batsman using it. The discussion of buying a big brand or not depends on your own needs, budget and taste. For me, I would go for big names, as the prices are similar and the shipping costs reasonable, just to benefit from their service if needed.

I nearly bought a GM Flare the other day.... its pickup and ping were fantastic but in the end there was just one bat in the whole shop that beat it so I opted for that.
Brand bats are expensive but you do have the advantage of being able to go to your local shop and hit balls which in a good shop means a choice of a lot of bats.
Certainly a good local shop ensures you see far less of the smaller named brands which is very sad but I can see why it happens.

Guessing from his other posts, it was the Kookaburra CCX 900.
