How to refurbish bat?
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:39:53 AM »

HI Guys,

I have GN Powerbow 3 Star. It has got few small cracks and one major crack. I want to refurbish the bat myself. Since it is 3 Star it is not worth getting it from a professional. Plus I am in Canada so shipping will be ridiculios. I like this bat as this was my first bat which I bought according to my will. So just for fun I want to refurb it myself

Suggestions?

Much appreciated,

Uzair

MR Cricket - I am not saying that.

Colesy - No, it was not dry. For example, if I sanded that bat today it was oiled 3-4 weeks ago.

Am about to do it. I took the scuff sheet off last night and it is still sticky so what should I do? Sand the bat as much I can then oil it?

Also when oiling should I oil back/edges first and then front?Or everything at small with help of a piece of cloth or bounty ?

Thanks

Oil the bat once a year, oil can easily destroy bats if over used. To remove the sticky residue form the scuff sheet use a light amount of white spirit, then sand the bat and apply a light coat of oil, leave the bat face down for 24 hours

Any other alternative solution? I don't know what white spirit is nor I have it

I got it last year in June and since then I just oiled the back and front once. At the moment it seems to be really dry though

The whole blade but just enough to keep the wood supple, so a light coat should be sufficient.

I'm not sure what you have in Canada(?) but white spirit is used for removing paint/cleaning paint brushes. General DIY stuff. Smeels goooooood
