Was up at Chester Le Street today for a meeting and i also did a walk around the full ground looking at different things regarding work. Around the back of the ground Graham Gooch was in the out door nets with one of the Essex players putting him through his paces, Essex were 4 down at the time so I'm not sure who was batting but he was a gm left hand player if anyone knows let me know.

Gooch was using a training device I've not seen before so it could be new or something he possibly adapted himself it may well be an older device as I'm not that up on training aids. The device was used to bowl the ball to the batsmen it was hand held which the ball was attached to and using a throwing action it sent the ball down at a fair old lick so is this new old or something possibly adapted.

was it like one of them stick things you use to fling tennis balls for dogs to fetch?

Not 100% sure what it was as I've not seen one before, it was white it had a handle which would be roughly 12 inches long with a head which you attach the ball to and i did take a few pics on my phone but got no way of sticking them up and they ain't that clear.

It sounds like one of those things you use to flick tennis balls to dogs with! it picks up the ball and then you can flick the ball quite far with it

good thinking that. ive got one so wil proceed to fling beamers the next time im at nets and it dont come out right.

Any link for this product and i could say yer or no, I'm not sure its a new aid and possibly something he found by accident but it was working well apart from the odd beamer he sent down.

yh, cool. could be worth a go, not sure a cricket ball would fit into that great. was he definately using a hard ball not an incrediball?

Lol it was defo a cricket ball bud and i stood watching for a good 15 mins during the tea interval and i was going to wait until he had finished and ask him but as i was at work i had to go.

If they have a store near me i will pop in tomorrow and pick one up and let you know if it is the same, the one in the pic is a different colour but cant say if its exactly the same as i wasn't close up to it.

It's a new training aid, can't share too much info on it yet. But it's patented and is being used by a number of cricket coaches.

It is similar to the dog ball thrower, however it's been modified/improved for cricket.
