Applying new labels
« on: April 19, 2010, 11:07:19 AM »

I have just received some new labels to update my current match bat, which I have sanded down, wet and dried, and oiled. When adding these new stickers, is it best to sand the surface where they are to be applied with a fine sandpaper to aid adhesion?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

i find that it is best to oil after the stickers have been applied, otherwise you have to wait a good few days for the oil to be fully absorbed into the blade.

i would fine sand - with grit 220/300 probably - should do the job, but the oily surface is the most important part - you have to wait untill the surface has absorbed all the oil so that the stickers will apply.

Yeah if you have oiled it leave it at least three days before applying the labels or else they may not adhere correctly.

they resemble a kraft-owned confectionery in colour, so should be good enough quality ;)

they can be a pain in the ass to apply if the spine isnt the right height - too flat or too thin and you're looking at a cadbury coloured mess!

well, they are going on a newbery, so hopefully all will be fine...

hmm, seems that ss was right - have spent a fair bit of time getting frustrated with lining up stickers and getting them to bl%&dy stick. ended up covered in uhu and a ripped back sticker, so have put my black efforts back on my match bat :(
