You need to get really side on in your action and follow right through

Not necessarily Greg, when I bowled my Collingwood-esque dobblies, I used to get plenty of swing from a front on action. wrist and seam position are crucial, seam needs to be upright. shiny side of the ball wants to be on the opposite side that you want to swing it to, so a right armer swinging it away to a right handed batsman wants the shiny side facing the leg side boundary.

I have a mixed action and bowl big away swingers. You need to really rip you fingers down the ball to get the seam going down perfectly.

It doesn't matter if you're chest on or side on, it's all in perfection of the wrist and seam position.

Also, it depends on the conditions. slightly windy, overcast, not overly cold conditions should be perfect. oh, and when i said collingwood-esque, i meant similar style, just far far worse! you need a breeze, much like a spinner is helped to drift the ball by a breeze. physics-wise, they're not too dissimilar.

Try and bowl into the wind if possible, this will swing more than bowling with the wind.

bit of a buggar for genuine quicks who want to swing it though isn't it! sacrificing swing for speed or vice-versa...

and tommo, like i said, it's a combination of wrist and seam position as well. difficult art to get right all the time!

A gentle grip with the fingers will get the ball to swing later, keep your arm high and try and make it a smooth action to generate it. Overhead conditions do play a part, no swing from anyone on Saturday due to cold wind and heavy cloud.

Heavy cloud is the best weather condition for swing bowling.

Wrist position plays a big part as does you type of action (side on best suited to away swing, chest on for in swing)but there are lots of factors including the type and quality of ball. There are some good websites to look at that give tips etc. Just keep practising in the nets.
