I want to learn the art of podshaving!
« on: June 08, 2010, 07:25:50 PM »

Ive got a gap year planned for next year and want to learn how to make cricket bats. I have searched the forum but to no avail. Google yielded nothing apart from bat mitzvahs lol

Are there any apprenticeships, workshops, dvds or tutorials that may help?

cheers

Its all good having the tools but how do you know what to do with them? I have a bit of knowledge about working with wood in terms of sanding it, using band sanders, belt sanders, smooth and rough grade sanding papers etc but how does that apply to a bat.

Also, can you list how many things I will need to make a bat and how much they should cost

cheers

I know I'm going to seem like a bit of a party pooper here, but I think that a lot of bat makers and companies are reluctant to show/teach people becuase of insurance reasons. I may be wrong, but this was certainly the case when I applied at Millichamp and Hall for work experience last year, they said that under new government guidlines they would not be insured....
