Kevin Pietersen / Hampshire
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:22:01 PM »

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/counties/hampshire/8738829.stm

Did anyone else see this today. Sounds like KP wont sign a new deal with Hampshire.

How exactly does the central contract thing work? Does the ECB then contract the players (pay them their salary etc) but they still remain contracted to a club (in thi case Hampshire). Does it mean that centrally contracted players still get paid anything by their counties?

I wonder where he will go, Middlesex and Surrey are the closest to Chelsea where he lives, but, if the county has to make a financial contribution towards him, then it doesnt make sense to me. I mean, sure if he played 1/2 t20 games a year these two clubs would probably pull in full attendances for those games, but still wouldnt make much sense to me.

is it possible for a player to be centrally contracted without a county?

Perhaps they pay on a game by game fee like overseas players?! Or by performances that are put in by that player? Pointless Kp leaving Hampshire as he last played in 2008 I believe...

it doesnt matter - he wont play for the county at all so pretty much a waste on the team sheet - just like all the aussie teams: Tasmania would be the best if all their internationals were available.

Hope he doesn't go to Surrey.

We're rubbish enough as is it, we don't need KP's ego causing more agro.

to be fair it would be a waste of money for any county to buy him... plays a maximum of 2 championship games a year and the odd one-day game. i wouldnt bother....

He will go to Surrey, we need someone to replace Ramps at the end of the season and we are the only county who can afford him.

I have absolutely no idea how R H-B will possibly cope being captain to yet another ego and I agree with Jeet what Surrey need to do is clear out the egos (Chris Adams' as well)...

would a county actually pay anything to him though?

Id very much doubt he would go to kent, we have no money at all. Maybe he might buy kent and have his own team!
