Hi gents,

I may be totally barking up the wrong tree here but I have just finished a net session with the overseas pro at our club and we were talking about sponsorship and how he has came to England without a sponsor this year.

Was just writting this on his behalf to see if any of the companies on here may be interested, I am going to send him the link to this site for him to have a look.

His name is Ian Gerald Daniel, first class cricketer in Sri Lanka playing for Thornaby CC in the NYSD now any info would be great.

He's a very talented chap isn't he? yeah, that's really surprising, although i can't think of any sri lankan cricket kit manufacturers, so i don't know...

ye he is a superb pro for us, and one of the nicest guys ive met in the game, scored a fantastic ton on saturday and took 3 wickets he is just getting used to the tracks up here so more of the same to come

We have two pro's in our team an English and an overseas both of which are excellent, the league allowes two pros so the teams take advantage of this and the standard of cricket is spot on.
Some of the teams in the league however do have two English pros, just depends on what teams prefer and budget maybe?

id much rather see a young english lad being paid to play than some 30 year old aussie/sri lankan/pak/indian

my club is fortuanate enough to have one or two players who we dont have to play who could easily be proffesionals. in my experience, when pros are involved they just play against each other as noone else really matters when they smash 150 and take 5 wickets

not specifically talking about your man by the way! just a general opinion of mine that young british talent should be nurtured instead of paying these overseas a packet!

mr cricket i agree as much when i played lancashire league when the pro were top players(harper,bevan,donald,simmons,) they give your club so much in terms of gate and bar money but since the advent of all year round international cricket i feel many of the pro coming over are just overpaid and i too would love to see more 18-20 year old english county players being involved more

but some of the pro coming over are good coaches and kids do benifit from them big so they put something back into cricket in this country

it certainly has its benefits, but at the end of the day they take their money and fly off home... wouldnt it be nice to see a young english lad progress through your club, be there year in year out and eventually find his way in to the first class game, thats going to be more beneficial than anything that a money driven overseas pro could teach you in 5 minutes!

yep agreed there i more worried about the kolpack and some of the overseas players plying there trade in county cricket who are good cricketers but not top notch collymore at middlesex.

i more worried about them taking the place of a youngster who has done as you said build himself into a cricketer then finding the brick wall that is kolpack

yeah, i remember a certain leics vs northants game a year or two ago with a ridiculous amount of kolpak saffers involved, possibly 10 between the two teams, after that theyve made an effort to reduce them but collymore is a great example of a crap overseas players keeping a young, english cricketer from gaining an oppotunity... you dont see this in aussie/indian/saf domestic cricket and that is why they are the best teams in the world, because they have systems and quotas to ensure that under 23s especially get as much exposure to first class cricket as possible. the sooner the ecb take note of this we will see more players coming through.

agree with the last point mr. c, just an example is at Somerset where for the past couple of seasons players like Alphonso Thomas, Zander de Bruyn, Willoughby and even Kieswetter are blocking the way for Jos Buttler, Max Waller, Mark Turner etc. who have been playing second xi cricket instead....
