I was of the opinion that England should ditch Collingwood as he is not good enough, but Morgan is so good and so settled at 5 that I now think Collingwood is fine playing as he won't delay Morgan's early arrival.

I know he is Irish but what a great player and so cool under pressure, very very impressed, he used to be at Lekka's Cricket & Hockey academy and a lot of praise goes to Lekka for switching him to cricket full time.

He is not good enough to bowl and I feel he is past his best batting wise, in the Tests he is building up a poor run of form and then finds a career saving knock only to build up another indifferent at best run. I think there are better players out there than him available for England, Morgan being one in the Test arena who deserves his chance.

I think morgan is definately the way forward where as colly might be dwelling in the past. Good point you make about bad run followed by saving innings followed by bad run....

Morgan definately deserves his chance, yet another stunning innings tonight!

Very, very, VERY strongly disagree about that (and not for the first time lol)!

In my eyes, Paul Collingwood is an excellent player, possibly the best England have and I'll tell you why I think that: He is an all rounder in all senses of the word. He bats well, bowls well and fields exceptionally well. He has what I call the 'million dollar' ability - He can see out the last day in a Test match to get a draw, he can build an innings in the 50 over format and he can aggressively chase down totals in T20 format.

As well as that, I rate and respect him as a captain too. We always knew he could read the game well as a batsman but he has done the same as a captain and I think his tactics in the T20 world cup were spot on.

He has adapted to all forms of the game unlike any other player imo. A countless number of times I have seen him bat with the no. 11 to see out a test match and, in the IPL, he was a big player, hitting all kinds of shots out of the ground.

Colly may not be as flashy and egotistical as KP or as acclaimed as Morgan, but to say he should not be in the side is grossly unfair in my view. 'You dont know what you have until its gone' applies here.

Mike I have to be honest - I thought he was replaceable in the England team as well, but this excellent article in the Wisden magazine I read a couple months back showed me how wrong I was - http://wisdencricketer.com/item.php?parent_id=3&child_id=0&item_id=666

Eoin Morgan - Again, great innings that just shows what an exceptional player he is. If this England squad remains consistent and carries on the form till the tour down under, I actually fancy our chances of defending the little urn.

Morgan is collys eventual replacement as have same dogged mentality and concentration it looks to me as if they are trying to faze colly out of it as he still bowls very well as he had a cracking spell for durham the other day but does not bowl for England any more as he didn't in the t20 but think he will be around for another year or two yet then I think Morgan will take his spot as colly was the no. 5 a while ago

I think one of Bell or more likely Trott will be dropped way ahead of Collingwood. Colly will be in the side for Australia. If Morgan keeps scoring runs during this one day series, he will have to play against Pakistan.

Does anyone else thing this period of strengthening training that Broad did and that Finn is doing is rediculous - Broad just looked rusty yesterday, he certainly didn't bowl faster...

It's another name for rest I think

plus I will agree I am not knocking colly like I said he will be around for a couple more years I just think Morgan is a great replacement due to the fact they have the same biggest strength which is mental disipline

Buzz i don't think the conditioning and strength training is about bowling faster. I think the primary aim is to improve overall fitness to prevent injury in both the short and long term as well as improve endurance.

I kind of see where you are coming from, but you cannot drop colly. I know its cliche but he really does dig in for England when we need him. Personally i think Strauss should drop out of the one day side and Colly should be the captain.

Im undecided about Morgan in tests. He didnt cash in against Bangladesh which i think might work against him in the short term. You'd have to drop Bell or Trott to get him in the side and i think in the longer format right now those two have the edge on Morgan. If he keeps knocking on the door though he'll get his chance. I hope he goes to Aus this winter

unusually I agree with Rod Bransgrove's view on the subject... "Anything else is a short-term view from the ECB. The only interest they have is the England team. What I am trying to impress on the ECB is that there is a difference between England and English cricket. We will sacrifice English cricket the way we are going and that will be a desperate state of affairs. What we are doing is gradually we are disenfranchising the county game.

“Look at Steve Finn and Stuart Broad. If you want to take them out for six weeks to build muscles why send them to Loughborough? If we are saying they are not best served by playing for their county then we are sounding the death knell for first class cricket. It wouldnt surprise me if the ECB are using this strengthening course as a smoke screen for just resting the players (although it doesnt make sense with Finn). I think they messed up with the Strauss decision for the tour to Bangladesh (PR wise) and now its a good way of resting players without being discriminatory to Bangladesh. If the winter tour and the first opposition of our summer was anyone other than Bangladesh these players would have played
