As much of us know playing under 19 you have to have fast bowling regulations and max of 7 overs or something in club cricket, so I was wondering does this still apply in first class cricket? If Mohammed Amir was English could he only bowl 7 overs in a test match? Seems a bit unfair to me!

The bowling restrictions are supposed to apply in all cricket... I can see the Salmon telling Rudi to do one if he suggests he needs to take Amir off at the moment though.

The rule is ridiculous, it really annoys me, wicket keeping probably does just as much harm! and you can go out and get your head smashed off without a helmet on batting @ 18, (or get smashed in the pub legally!) but not bowl more than 7 overs seam up! annoyed!

I was told that this was brought in because the Australians used it. Now they have supposedly dropped it in Oz i reckon it wont take long for the ECB to drop it.

Its so annoying, under 18's who i play with just get a bit of rhythm and then they have to stop.

Its only an ECB guideline as far as I know, and because of Amir being Pakistani it is up to the National Governing Body of cricket in Pakistan.... might be wrong though....

i think it should be kept in junior cricket like under 17 and under 15 level, within clubs, to let everyone get a bowl like.

but as soon as juniors step up into the adult game, then it shouldn't matter, they should bowl as many as they want

in that case, i think i read somewhere that Stuart Broad was still on ECB bowling guidelines a few years ago when bowling for England in New Zealand.

My personal point of view is that the guidelines are pointless, as even when i was 13/14 in the summer holidays myself and a few mates used to have net sessions for 4 or 5 hours at a time bowling 35 odd overs sometimes! We got reported to the league a few weeks ago because a guy who is 19 next month bowled 13 overs straight.....

I think I am right in thinking that if the wicket keeper stands up to you and he is the same age then you are classed as a slow bowler. Meaning you can bowl with only the league regulations.
I can bowl 7 overs in a spell. Having to wait 14 overs to bowl again (7 overs from my end) I can then bowl my other 5 overs. (League maximum is 12 overs per bowler).

I generally bowl 6 overs and only bowl a 7th if I am going really well.

Liam, that unfortunately isn't correct about the keeper, its at the discretion of the umpire what is classed as slow bowling

yes i always bowl 6 straight up the have to come off for 7 my end its a joke as it usually takes me awhile to get going and i open the bowling! and im bloody 18! although somedays im glad about it as my back starts to hurt as well as left ankle! from slamming foot down

nope some people in my year can some cant! and im 19 on the 3rd of august! next year i can bowl straight through!
