why do gm bats sound bad off the mallet?
« on: July 26, 2010, 12:06:55 PM »

I was jsut wondering if anyone knew the reason why GM bats dont sound as good in the shops? I mean when you hit them on a mallet or hammer in the shop, as to why they sound alot worse than other bats, and not as clean and somewhat harder. Obviously they somewhat soften up or break in and become better bats than alot of other brands.

Im guessings its pressing, but never understood why and what it means.

my GM sounds fine with a mallet, exactly the same as it did in the shop. you might have seen a bad batch or something?

maybe to do with the fact that GM are CNC machined rather than the more traditional method leading to a harder compression on the wood due to the tool used to shape them?

dont judge a bat untill youve played with it! doesnt mean anything how it 'sounds'

I'm gunna guess at it being something to do with the fact that most are pre-knocked in and that normally means they are pressed twice, hence the different sound?

Just what I thought the other day while hitting a GM bat. The bats seem to have harder wood which makes a very high pitch sound.

Yeah, as long as I score many runs with the bat, I don't care how it sounds!

Well i have been using a GM Icon 909 all season after i ordered it in for a player who consequently quit the game so i ended up having to pay for it etc. After having thought i would never like a big brand bat after obsessing over Redback, laver etc, i have fell in love with it and the more i play with it the better it the better the ping and response from the blade, as i have to say most shots always go for a 4 even if they are not struck hard. The wood does seem a little harder with a higher pitched noise but the balance and all round quality of the bat is superb.
