Newbery Bat Range

I was wondering what the difference between a SPS bat and a C6+ bat is?

C6 is a type of handle thats in the bat in terms of a carbon handle, SPS is the top grade of willow that newbery use in their grading system.

I believe that the top willow is also used in the C6 bats....or at least hope it is as iv got a C6 and SPS ;)

SPS is top of the range willow.
The C6+ is the same top of the range quality willow, but with the carbon handle technology too!

From what i understand, Newbery will often resrve the lightest clefts to be used in conjunction with the C6+ handles, so that they can get some big shapes at light weights!
The C6+ handle is not legal to produce nowadays, however if you have one or have recently purchased one then you are allowed to use it for it's natural life. Having said that, im not sure which aspects of the law concern village cricketers and the pro's with regards to composition of the bat.

People have generally agreed that the C6+ will feel slightly different to a normal cane handle, im guessing that it might also be slightly stiffer than a cane handle.

So from what your saying, you can't buy a brand new c6+ bat.

I believe they have stopped making them now as they arent strictly legal....the one i have weighs 2.5oz as is the same size and spec as the 2.9 mjolnir with a traditional cane handle as Dom says by having a lightweight habdle more wood can go into the blade.

Personally i found that i prefer the traditional handle to the carbon ones having tried out both the C6 and Carbo core of a L&W so its horses for courses really and how you find it once trying it out as to what you prefer.

You can still find them if you know where to look..... not the LA Underground, you'll only find the A-Team there.....

Remember a guy I played with having one of the early ones of these a few years back, had a strange feel to it with the handle being so light but it was a 2.5 (sounds very similar to yours Tom with it being around the same size as a normal 2.9) and certainly performed! Bloke who owned it was a proper no. 11 but it saw more than its' share of club use.
