Have you tried using www.alibaba.com to see what sort of quotes you get on the volumes you require? At least if you start there you'll have some idea of what to expect and you could talk to the guys on here about the various suppliers that have come back to you and whether they are worth using?

Yes I've had a look on there before and to be honest all I need is gloves that I know are going to be top quality which I can't guarantee from there. They're going to be used by lads playing 2nd team and MCCU cricket against the counties - and all I really want is white gloves which are then labelled with my logo. I'm coming to realise its too complicated without contacts to get some from Asia when I only really want 40 pairs...so if I could just get some through someone in England (obviously paying a premium as a result) then that would be fine.

Its bloody frustrating trying to get softs done as its almost impossible to find someone to do them for you via the internet, even if your ordering 40 pairs in a generic design. Its what economists call an insider-outsider problem, where those on the inside (eg established brands) have an incentive to stop others getting into the market, as by reducing information flows they are able to boost their prices above the market clearing level creating a monopoly, and excluding new brands (the outsiders). I only want to order 40 generic pairs of gloves - which I sure is a similar request to a few small brands (many small brands might order 150 pairs but of 3 different designs) - but am finding it virtually impossible to get anywhere with cheap embossed gloves...Anyway apologies for the rant. And by the way the problem with the insider outsider model is that the market doesn't clear properly, consumers lose out.

Do you really expect a brand to say here's who makes our gear, here's his number and here's how you buy?

There's a couple of quality manufacturers already mentioned in this thread, do some research and buy from them instead of moaning because Gray Nicolls won't tell you who makes their gear and at what price it can be purchased.

Come on Tom, you underestimate me - we've had a fair few dealings over the years and you should probably know that I'm not quite that naive. You're wrong if you think I haven't done a good amount of research, sent a fair number of emails and even called people...have a look at the gap between my last posts, most of which was spent trying to get in contact with people. I know with Itias you went to India, which is an option if I was really desperate...

And clearly I don't expect companies to say 'X makes our gear', but I wanted to express my frustration at the lack of clear ways into the Indian production side of the cricket market and wanted to see if anyone on the forum in the past had got a small number of pads + gloves done and could point me in the right direction without losing out themselves...

Punter, getting things made in India is not easy. With Mongoose the gear turned up 8 weeks late, only 6 days before Christmas. You'll have hiccups along the way and if just getting a contact is difficult (they're all over the forum) then I'd not bother.

There's a lot of legwork involved and there's at least 3 reputable suppliers who have already been reccomended in this thread.

Start there or at one of the many Indian brands.

No fair enough - you've had much more experience than me at this Tom, so I'm thankful for your thoughts. I'm sure with another concerted effort I'll be able to sort something out. As you say and as your experience with Mongoose suggests, getting gear from India is a bit of a nightmare I know - I just need to man up and get on with the hard yards of contacting more people. Thinking about it there could be a niche in the market for anyone who can import blank gear in various designs and then emboss or embroider it in the UK - I bet there would be a fair few suppliers who would take up the offer of sorting out gear through a UK based company!

Anyway thanks for your thoughts.
