Soft Good Contacts
« on: September 16, 2010, 10:12:54 AM »

I'm looking at getting a large batch order of pads and gloves done for the Cambridge team, does anyone have contacts for soft goods in India/Pakistan who might be prepared to make the gloves and pads with the required colour scheme? It would be an order of 30-40 pads and gloves, but obviously they would need to be a seriously good quality gloves (pitards, maybe the shark tooth design) as otherwise the boys would probably just stick with their GN/Kooka gear.

Failing that, does anyone know vaguely where to start when developing a soft good range - for example Tom from Ayrtek where did you start developing your range (I do understand if you don't want to say!).

Pen and paper mate was where I started out, plenty of soft good retailers will offer to make them for u but as u say it's about having a high quality product made. It's the shipping that will cost a fair chunk if ur looking at having them sent via air freight.

Are u looking at having ur own logos on the pads gloves? They may offer a stock design that they have as a company for u to use and simply but ur logo upon them. If ur looking to design th from scratch it takes time to sample/perfect the goods for which they would be looking to recover the costs of doing so by larger size volume orders beyond 30-40 units worth of pad/gloves etc I would think.

We were lucky as many manufacturers approached us to produce samples as a growing brand it's just a question of finding the correct one

I use BAS(for pads) and SS(Gloves) for softs.
As ur order is around 40 pieces it will cost a lot of money if u ask the makers to make it from scratch. What u can do is have a look at their designs and modify a little to suit u. that way you will cut down the cost.
The other problem would be How busy these guys are as they have to stop their production to make different design of gloves in small number.

Have either of you gentlemen (Talisman/Asad) had any chance to read my emails? How big an order would you need for custom softs?

They may screen print the logos for u but doubt they will emboss items for such a low order of goods. You would need to have an idea volume of goods as a MOQ to out to them to see if they are willing to make items for u

Yes I was getting the impression that going to India for a week may be the easiest way around the whole issue! Short of ordering 100 pairs, I may just have to settle with plain softs, or at least generic softs, and then get someone to whack a logo on - but to be honest even sorting that out is seemingly quite complex!

I'd be interested to know how many softs Newbery would order through-out a year, I'd presume a few hundred? Does anyone know who does theres?

It's not as easy as everyone thinks I'm afraid! As I was telling someone yesterday u get hit win import vat and duty as well as having to get info such as applications for releasing the goods etc through customs.

The companies who produce high quality goods will be busy with orders due to this and a smaller one of order will take up time on the production line from these orders is obviously valuable to them

Gus - have you tried Champ Sports at all? Mohit has a mixed reputation on here, but I've found his quality pretty good, and he may work with the quantities you are interested in.

Long time no post from my perspective, but now that Uni is finished for the term I'm back trying to sort out these soft goods for Cambridge. Anyone got a contact? I spoke to various people last time with no much luck. All I need is some high-end blanks which I can get a logo on - preferably very plain traditional gloves and pads but top quality only, probably around 30 pairs of gloves, maybe 10 pairs of pads?
