Haven't seen any of it but sounds like Bell's innings was a masterclass and really pleased the Bears came through although do feel sorry for Somerset who deserved to win something this season. Let's hope Bell continues in this vein Down Under

Bell batted briliantly!
Hate Tahir though - he's got the kind of face that needs a smack!

I played with his brother last season and he was a spit of him!!

Somerset are the best cricket team in the country, consistent in every format and seriously unlucky not to have won at least 2 out of 3. Some teams could go backwards after a season like this one but I hope that with Kirby signed and a couple more fast bowling additions we will take that last small step forwards and win the championship next season. We seriously missed Zander in the final as Turner had already been released and I feel he would have added at least 25 to our batting total and reduced Warwickshire's by the same replacing Turner.

Went to the game yesterday and had a great day and to see Lords under lights for the first time was brilliant.

Disagree on the " best team" and "luck" theory though.

2020 Final - yea agree that luck did play a part with Pollard getting injured.

Championship - The best team always wins the league. Over the season somerset have just been missing something. I think Trescothic as a captain is a bit negative. The game against Kent comes to mind when he would not agree a run chase with Rob Key and settled to bat and get max batting points. He would not take the gamble of setting a run chase and they ended up with a draw.

Pro 40 - Outplayed by a better team. Somersets big players failed in a final again. Bell was a different class. I never really like him as a player but watching him live yesterday has totally changed my view. It looked like an effortless hundred. Again Trescothic failed as a captain, played a crap shot to get out and then bowling out Kartik was a mistake I thought he should have bowled one of the last two overs. It was obvious that Bell was not going to take any risks against him. Why Turner bowled the second last over I don't know.

To miss out on all three competitions is going to be hard to take but I would hope that the Somerset team and Management are not putting it down to luck. They were just missing that killer instinct that is required to win trophies.

Perhaps a change in management is required. To have a head coach with no first class cricket experience could be where the team are lacking. You need someone who has been there and done it. Langer would be my choice as coach if he wanted it.

My view anyway !!

Interesting that you don't agree with the "best team" tag Kieron, who would you say were the best team in the country this year?

Also interested in how you find being in 2 finals and finishing level on points with the championship winners an effort of a team that are lacking. Considering the revenue that Somerset generate and the amount they can spend on players I think the squad have been superb and Andy has managed them very well. Being written off as a coach for not having first class experience is a bit of a sweeping statement, also it is well known that some players responded very well to his and Langer's running of the team, Trego for example. Others hated it and even left the county, what a difference Blackwell could have made if he stayed, 2 championships to show for his move away from Langer.

Yea I know what you are saying but at the end of the day its trophies that count. I'm sure all the Somerset team would trade the "best team" tag for a trophy. The best teams are the teams that have won the trophies this year.

Yes, I think they are lacking and I'm guessing the Management feel the same way. That is why they have gone and signed Kirby (not that I think he is the answer) and i think they will be in the market for some more players. This season will have taken alot out of the current squad and it will need freshening up for sure.

As for the Coach, no doubt he is a good at something but when Langer was there he ran the show and now I understand Rose does the same. I also know that Langer had certain views on how the game should be played and certainly blackwell did not fit into that (but he has some trophies now) and neither did my mate Spurway. I just wonder where the players go for advise. Just through talking to ex players I've been told that its not the coach !! if someone is struggling with the bat or the ball they need to speak to someone who has been there and done it. That could be the difference at that level.

Something must be missing to miss out 3 times. Even Trescothic admitted that in his post match interview.

They have a very very good team but it just needs that final piece of the jigsaw to make them go down as the best.

I don't know, what do you think ? would you change anything ?

There's a difference between being the best all-round team and a team which wins a trophy/trophies.
In an ideal world they would both be the same team, but they're not.
Life's like that!
