Grip Applicators
« on: September 19, 2010, 07:13:33 PM »

Having always made a mess of using the traditional cone for putting grips on, am looking for something else. Can anyone recommend the GN vacuum applicator, is it any good?

Alternatively, without sounding like a complete fool, what is the proper way to use a cone? I always end up with the grip just too short at base of the handle, or with excess at the base of the handle (folded over).

When using a cone I always place a grip onto the top and move it down a bit, then I roll it from the bottom up until it comes off. Then I have a start as some of it is already rolled. I then turn the grip upside down and place the unrolled bit on the cone and roll down the done until it's at the bottom. I then place the bat under the cone and transfer the grip onto the bat. If the grip isn't at the bottom of the handle completely I roll the grip up and down so it stretches it slightly until I'm happy.

Hope this helps.

the thing you need to know about vacuum applicators is that they don't work with octopus grips.

i've put octopus grips on by putting some insulation tape around the ends of the grip sealing them onto the plastic of the applicator if you know what i mean.

I broke a GM applicator by doing that, the pump bit came off.

I find it fine for thin grips like the standard chevron, herringbone and control grips, but spiral grips seem to be a bit narrower and harder to stretch over the ends.

same with vacuum! They are pretty similar it makes no difference really, i will say its easier to get grip to right place on bat with vacuum though!

GM VACUUM is awkward, only works sometimes, and if the grip has even the tiniest of holes it doesn't work.

I wouldn't recommend it imo.

I was struggling at one point, wouldn't stretch that final inch. It's all good to use now though.
