Well then as you all know the aussie season has started up and we up on the coast are into our second game.

First game was rained off so not much to write home about

We are halfway though the match with one day gone. Playing on our home field the no 1 field on the coast! we won the toss and had a hit on a road of a pitch.  Our openers went out there and faced about 10 overs before one got bowled by this 16 year old lefty who was swining it a mile.  Then our opening bowler for tavs hit our othere opener on the foot directly in front of middle stump.  It looked dead from the boundary, and there was a massive appeal and it was turned down!  We thought it must have been an inside edge. When he got out he was like "that LBW was dead plum!! missed it by a bloody mile. I should have walked!"  I went out to square leg at 2 down and then the batsman who made  41 pushed forward and there was a massive edge through to the keeper. I heard it at squre leg.  In fact the guys on the boundary from our team heard it. 

Once agin the finger stayed down much to my disbelife! Well then a few more shockers were given not out.  I went in and in made a solid 32 in my second match of second division!  yea 3rd top score!  got back stumped!

Well then our captain peewee made 99 and was gunned on 99! the lbw was high and well outside the line of off

So we made 230 and they are 0 for 2 off one in reply

The opening bowler for tavs whos LBW got turnded down I played with on sunday!! we had a laugh about the decsion as that is all we could do!! 

For tavs we made!!!!!!!!::::: 1 for 234 off 85 and we are still batting. one guy is 144no and the other is 62 no!  Imagine bowling 85 overs for one wicket!! The one they got was a shocker of a decison. Hit him in the hip and came back with the bruise to prove it LBW!!!

Oh course it was the umpire's fault Nozza.

Now what is the law about hit on the full LBW'S?  A quick precis will do.

Best laugh I've had for a while Nozza 'Looked dead from the boundary'. With a eye like that Nozza you should be an umpire.

As for the nick well who knows. I am told i missed one last tuesday. Twenty knot wind from behind, a large semi trailer with exhaust brakes going about 150 meters away and the seam never even wobbled on the supposed nick. The bowler didn't even appeal and yet everyone behind the stumps cliamed there was a big edge, hmmm.

I gave a player out in winter hit high on the thigh LBW. H was trying to seep at the time. Plumb. Gave a player out two seasns ago hit on the left shoulder. Well he was prostate on the pitch at the time avaoiding what he thought was a bouncer, it was a full toss at about 135 k's, you should have seen the bruise.

Become an umpire Nozza we need more folks with a sharp eye like yours obviously isnd keen hearing just like yours. But you won't because you couldn't stand the comments made to you when someone believes you got it wrong.

If you are hit on the full you are to assume the ball is going straight on.  Hit playign back in frotn of middle is generally out! lol,  not having a go jsut thought it was classic!

Mate on teh nick there was no wind no truck or nothing.

E-unit i was saying what happenend in cricket and just saying a few decisions that i thought were classic.

Well then art my tavs batsman was definitely not sweeping the opening bowler.  He was jumping up playing a ball fof his hip

Straight on or do you follow the path of the ball in flight?

Of course umpires make mistakes just as players do, the bigger the pool of umpires the better the overall standard . I am never wuite sure why more players don't take up umpiring!

It will follow the flight of the ball and go straight on.  The bowler was releaseing close to teh stumps. ball was going straight onto the bottom of middle. Not argueing jsut stating what i think the rules were

I know very few umpires. dissappointing

A great thing for cricket would be if more folks concentrated on their errors and their team's errors rather than concentrate an inordinate amount of time, energy and chatter on the perceived errors of umpires. In your last innings how many times did you play and miss? how many times did your team mates play and miss, how many byes were let through, how many no balls, how many wides etc etc?

a few times  i played and miseed.  Quite a few times our teams played and missed.  No byes were let though(how do i know? why i was keeping)  2 no balls and no wides

So your errors are allowed but an upmire's, according to you, mistake is some heinous crime that should be reported to all and sundry!

Maybe its an Australian thing but the umpires here in England don't get much tap from the players. I have to say that they are very good and we all know that mistakes happen and they know that players sometimes get frustrated with calls they don't like.

Art, if you have so much beef with players, is umpiring for you?

Heck you misread my staements. I enjoy umpiring and I have done it in 14 countries (if you count the West Indies as one country). You do of course joke when you say umpiring is okay in England. If that was / is the case why did the ECB recently for the Officials association (of which I am a member).

I guess as a long term player and umpire ( and umpire's mentor and trainer) I just get sick and tired of second rate players, commonly, and yesterday's heroes who are now commentators finding reasons to blame failures or anything else on umpires.

Next Wednesday I umpire game 1300 and can count the games I have not enjoyed on the fingers of one hand. The problem is that I am an oddity in umpiring because the carping and bitching has never bothered me because I train and I know, in retrospect, whether I have erred on not. The problem is that not enough people are becoming umpires and that in the long term is detrimental to cricket as a whole.

Well the leagues I've played in had some good umpires who have been fair to all. We know you will make mistakes and as long as you are not failing to apply yourself then there will not be a problem. I know that when I'm bowling I want to get the batsman out and that I will see things that look different to you. I umpire soemtimes when not playing and laugh at the comments from my own team mates when bowling and fielding. The biggest surprise is when they do not appeal when I would have given the batsman out LBW. This happened this summer to a guy I have known since we were 7 and he had the batsman trapped in front of leg stump and did not appeal, after the end of the over he stood next to me and said that was out wasn't it, to which I nodded and said yes, he thought it had hit outside leg and it goes to show that even though the bowler and umpire are very close they can be miles apart.

Heck I had one like that on Sunday, no one appealed and absolutely plumb.

The fundamental question is why don't we have enough umpires to go around. The job is not difficult by any means and its the best seat in the house for watching a game of cricket.

I have undertakebn extensive research in this area and it comes down to the treatment of umpires by a very small minority of players. the clubs all know who they are and yet do nothing about it. But hey what do I know.

I am not trying to bag any umpires, just mereley saying what happened, Art i am sure you are a great umpire however some of the decisions made were shockers.  I mena when the batsman said he was out then he probs was!
