Toe guard or shoe goo
« on: September 23, 2010, 08:30:14 PM »

Just got my stick refurbed, and due to playing on poor wet pitches i need to protect the toe. I've tried adding toe guards before with varying (usually little) success. Ive heard alot about shoe goo but wondered how you apply it? Im guessing its quite thick by nature, so do you just apply it about as thick as a toe guard? Does it dry pretty quickly to stop it "going out of shape" and running down the face or back of the bat?

If anyone has any advice it is greatly appreciated

It is quite viscous, so won't run away! Just put some on the toe and spread and shape it onto the toe.

It is so much better than a toe guard!

i actually prefer it to toe guards. application wise i would do the following:

1) use masking tape to mask the face/back of your bat, to prevent dripping during application
2) i apply a blob on the center of the toe, wet my finger and spread it evenly. thickness is really up to you, but as thick as a toe guard works.
3) let dry for at least 24 hours or it can come off.
4) make sure to do it outside/garage - as the stuff stinks.

also i've got the clear goo - so it looks alot better then the black one - but that is purely cosmetic.

i think that really depends on the conditions & how much you tap your bat at the crease. however, twice a season is fair to say.

I used a knife with my Solitaire and the shoe goo and spread it like butter, until there was a nice even coat along the toe and slight covering off the bottom of the bat face near the toe area, worked a treat.....
