Implementing Shoe Goo as a Toe Guard
« on: September 28, 2010, 01:36:56 PM »

I've found it tricky thus far to put shoe goo on successfully as a toe guard.

I've tried putting masking tape around the toe and then put a decent amount of shoe goo onto the toe and then evened it around to get a full cover of the toe. Since I have done that it seems as though the shoe goo has mainly edged to the sides of the bat where it is at it's lowest and left fairly faint layer on the middle of the toe.

Should I re-apply some more onto the centre of the toe and round it off once the first layer has set? As I only applied it about 10 minutes ago, should I try and shape it again now?

What's the easiest way of making sure that you have an even amount spread across the toe of the bat?

do it do it gradually without any tape and then spread it evenly with your fingers?

i dont use tape, And i use my fingers to spread it over the toe, Messy on the fingers but easily washes off

Put a blob on and wait for 10 or so mins, it will then not be sticky and will have begun setting so can be easily moved around and will be fine! Thats how i do it and it works and absolute treat!

Just applied my first shoe goo toe, and its a hell of alot easier than applying a toe guard (although id be the first to admit that i couldnt do this very well anyway). Applied two coats tonight and leaving to dry now. Will get some pics up once dry

nice one, would be good to see some pictures of shoe goo toe guards as I don't really know how thick to do it.

I just put some on 3 bats, 2 layers/coats/applications each how ever you describe it,it goes on like silicone,i put a line of it up the middle of the toe then wet my finger and spread it evenly around keeping the finger wet then just kept an eye on it in case it ran, after about 30 mins it was set enough to leave to harden which takes around 72hrs.i am going to put a 3rd layer on because when it dries out the moisture it shrinks down a fair bit.
I got a 110grm tube and at the rate i used it on 3 bats there should be enough for about another 6-10!!
