There are 2 exercises that you can do at home - supermans (lay on your stomach with your hands by your side then lift your head and chest off the floor thus hyper extending your back and strengthening your erector spinae) or alternatively do this over the side of the sofa for a more extensive exercise

Once the pains have gone (after the rehab type exercises like supermans) and you're feeling stronger, get yourself doing deadlifts. Nothing like a deadlift to make you an absolute tank (and squats) and when done correctly (solid technique) you'll have great lower back strength.

Now ... if you do deadlifts with bad technique, say goodbye to cricket for the next year or so.

good advice!
one thing i would say is take deadlifts easily at first, dont go straight in lifting large amounts, as even with correct technique this could make the back problem worse and you wouldnt want to go do'ing that :D
any more advice/help needed give me a shout, il be happy to help.

Definitely agreed. And I know through experience - went too heavy, rounded my back and ended up with a glute problem that is persisting even a year later. Definitely start light - great exercise to have for any athlete, no matter their discipline.
