Ok then, if no one else will, I better get a Hattori
« on: November 04, 2010, 07:37:55 PM »

Matt said he would be finishing it today so I'd expect to see it in the next few days :D

Specs requested

Hattori 5*
2'8
Heartwood on outside edge if possible (I'm not a believer that it makes a big difference, just all the bats I seem to buy these days have it, purely by chance. It is becoming something of a trend)

Thats about it, no special requests, no 'make the middle 3mm higher, or make the edges wide enough to park on. Just want to see what the fuss is about, as I've heard nothing but good things.

Pics/review to come as appropriate.

Hattori Hanzo: What brings you to Okinawa?
The Bride: I'm here to see a man.
Hattori Hanzo: Oh yeah? You have a friend living in Okinawa?
The Bride: Not quite.
Hattori Hanzo: Not a friend?
The Bride: I've never met him.
Hattori Hanzo: Never? Who is he, may I ask?
The Bride: Hattori Hanzo.
Hattori Hanzo: [Serious, switches to Japanese] What do you want with Hattori Hanzo?
The Bride: [Japanese] I need Japanese steel.
Hattori Hanzo: [Japanese] Why do you need Japanese steel?
The Bride: [Japanese] I have vermin to kill.
Hattori Hanzo: [English] You must have big rats if you need Hattori Hanzo's steel.
The Bride: [English] ... Huge.

I must admit I was sold on this purely by the visuals. I think it looks absolutely cracking. Don't even like the films that much, but it somehow works. It's...cool.

Plus I'm assured it will cut through any other make of bat without damage to itself.*

Ok have a look at the 666 profile, Hattori has thicker toe, generally more wood lower down, slightly thinner less tapered edges. What I'd describe as a 'stocky' profile. I do have a comparison shot but I won't post before I've checked with Matt that it is ok to do so.

Matt actually looks just like Hattori in the film and as he speaks Japanese was persuaded to make this model. Trouble is he drinks too much Sake

Is it concaved then? I have a 666 which is heavily concaved so i guess its a hybrid of that and an excel?

You know I have no idea, can't tell from the pics I've seen. I'd guess as it has smaller edges and a not so thick profile that concaving is minor if at all.

Hey J-Pin, I've picked up a Hattorri and had a good wave about with it. Looks a very nice shape, and they are very, very well finished. Stickers look excellent too.

You will look the cat's whiskers with one of these Pin-san!
