I have been offered a choice of bats. Let us consider the weights irrelevent for now. I can't go into who they are by, but suffice to know they are all made by the same maker and considered the same grade. Now they are all a bit different, and I honestly cannot choose from the pics.

Bat 1 is all sapwood, blemish free, straight grains. Looks really good.
Bat 2 is 1/4 heartwood blemish free, good grains etc.
Bat 3 is slightly less visually appealing, a couple of marks but 1/4 heartwood with longer handle/shorter blade.

Not very helpful I know, but any opinions will be welcome.

See 1 is a wildcard. I hadn't considered it because I'm on a bit of a heartwood trip, but I looked again when the absolute (No Swearing Please) who is tempting them with me sent me pics, and it is a bit of a stunner...

depends how good the grains are on bat two. Maybe that owuld suit you best if you want heartwood, blemish free and good grains?

Well I assume bat 3 is of the same quality, so the visual flaws are just that, visual.

i was alway a heartwood lad but the bat iv got at the moment hasnt got any and i think it looks a beauty , go with something a bit different to what you have already

I'd go for the one with the middle position that suits your play the best and then I'd look at which one has the most volume of wood to it's weight ratio

Ah, logic. Normally my friend, however middle position the same and no discernable stand out example in the profile to weight ratio.

Gentlemen I feel I should explain the anonimity thing, the bats are made by a maker not attached to this forum and I feel it may cause some friction if this thread is seen as advertising them. Hence I won't mention the name. Sorry for being cryptic but I dont want to get into a difficult situation for the sake of a cricket bat.

I'm sure you wouldnt get into trouble. But its sometimes better to just put the vital stats so people are not drawn to one by knowing what ranges they are as it could end up more a populaity contest!! does this bat maker make all three?

OH right. I thought it was h4l but no. I'd go for bat 1, then bat 2. I think the 3rd one doesn't sound appealing- heartwood is not that great IMO, but if you like it, the bat 2s the way to go!!

Yeh, same maker same grade. Same shape, except for 3 which is effectively the same, just shorter blade.

I don't see why u can't disclose the makes etc as all bats are discussed on this forum but hey whatever makes u happy..... It's difficult to pick one with so little info on the bat, I'd never choose a bat on grain structure/ aesthetics alone
