Using a long blade.
« on: November 24, 2010, 08:46:23 AM »

A guy at my club (who is a extremely good player, not a muppet), uses a long blade. Hes average height and definetly not technically in the LB field. He swears by using a long blade and thinks he bats alot better with it compared to when he used Short handle bats.

I was just wondering if any normal sized people do this as well? In trying to think of benefits I think it would be much better for people who choke the bat a bit and also in some cases may make ur stance a little easier (I.E - im crouched down and dont like it). Problems will generally be weight but if you found a light one it may be beneficial.

Maybe someone will disagree, but I seem to think ive seen a few average sized pros using long blades as there bats seem quite long (some this is), so just wondering if anyone does or has done it

I have seen a lot of County level players in the nets with long blade bats who are no where near 6 foot tall. A personal preference thing here i like playing with long bladed bats if you can get nice quality light bats etc. I think Kookaburra do a long bladed bat with a standard size handle and James Laver made me a bat with a long blade and standard length handle and its one of my favourites good balance etc!!!

I have a longblade GN which I'm going to sell I have used it only in the nets and it certainly does not suit me. It has great ping but I find the pickup not to
my taste. It wieghts 2lb7.7 and I am 178cm tall so it definetly is a personal preference thing.

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

What is it Lazza? That's a pretty light weight bat!

I'm an inch taller than that, and have used mostly LH or LB for the last few years. The only one I didn't get on with was the Laver as the middle was just too high. I think LB does feel quite different in pick up to LH and if you have been used to using SH, you are going to take a while to become accustomed.
