What ball is used in your league??
« on: December 04, 2010, 01:48:07 AM »

This Is something that's had me thinking recently.
How many different balls are being used accross the leagues and what league are they used in. I currently play P.D.C.L and we use Readers sovereign and have recently added a Dukes ball as well to our premier division, We Have found the dukes has a lacquer which enables the ball to swing more but seems harder than the readers and doesn't last as long in terms of durability. The quicks seem to prefer the dukes though. Would be interested to see what everyone else uses

Both balls we use are league supplied, club purchased. Just think it's odd how we use two completely different match balls.

that is odd but our 2nds use a different ball to us but from same league committe so not unusual theres is of a poorer quality and goes soft after 15 overs so no good for our standard but tink they would use the same universal so not much of a change if someone moves up

same ball used throughout our league as has to be checked by umpires first so strange to use two different balls in the same league

In Premier division it is White Kookaburra and in Division 4 they use league provided Pink balls.

In the Aire-Wharfe we have list of balls we can use:

Alfred Reader Balls

1) Alfred Reader and Son Special County Imperial Crown

2) Alfred Reader and Co. Test and County

3) Alfred Reader and Son Sovereign County Special

4) Alfred Reader and Son Invicta Elite

Dukes Balls

5) Dukes and Son County International

6) Dukes and Son Crown Special County

7) Dukes and Son Regent

Others

8) Oxbridge Buckingham

Grade A      Made in England

9) Lords International

Grade 1 – The Regal County Crown (BS 5993)

The Dukes are around £28 a ball, Readers Sovereign around £18.
Dukes are the best quality but obv very expensive, the past season we used Oxbridge Buckingham we we are find are excellent as they last a lot longer than readers balls and shine up well and have a good seam. I get these for £16 a ball which compared with the Dukes especially is a bargain. They are made by Tiflex who make the CCC Division 2 Balls.

Lats season we used some awful Readers that lost there swing after 5 overs ! the year before it was Oxbridge and they were great we was using the last few at the start of the season. Though we should be having new balls this season as no team go on with them so the League will more than likely change them
