This is an absolute wild move, but 2 years ago they took a risk with bringing Watson in to open the batting, so how about move North up to open the innings as he prefers pace on the ball, in place of Katich who is injured. Steve Smith in for Doherty to add the wrist spinner option to the side, and will also shorten the ridiculously long tail as he is more than a handy batsman! And personally I would get rid of Boring Boring Bollinger and bring in someone lively like Shaun Tait or someone else with pace as Perth is famous for being a quick pitch and could cause some damage... And as for another batsman I think they need someone with experience, White, D Hussey, Jacques, Rogers??

So my wildcard line-up would be:

1.Watson
2.North
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.Hussey
6.White
7.Haddin
8.Smith
9.Harris
10.Siddle
11.Tait

Any Thoughts????

Tait has retired from Test cricket, so is a definite no.

God that's an awful side. Rogers out, Phil Jacques in. Cosgrove out, Brad Hodge in. M Clarke out, Khawaja in. Clark and Hilfenhaus out, Copeland and, well, Chris Swan or Mark Cameron in.

Jacques
Watson
Ponting
Khawaja
Hussey
Hodge
Haddin
Hauritz
Copeland
Cameron
Harris

Going on form men (and Ponting), that's probably the best you'll find...

How is Jacques in form when he has an average of 22.88 in domestic first class cricket this year? Hodge is retired from first class cricket and handing out 3 caps isnt the answer.

I don't think there is an answer - the team picked for Adelaide, was probably near the best Oz have  Doherty out and Hauritz in, but whether that gets past Punter I'm not sure

1 Watson
2 North
3 Ponting
4 Clarke
5 Hussey
6 Smith
7 Haddin
8 Hauritz
9 Johnson
10 Hauritz
11 Cameron/Starc

North like pace on the ball so he can open to replace Katich.

Smith has just taken 4 wickets and is plenty good enough to bat at 6 with Haddin at 7 or the other way round.

Hauritz much better than Doherty

Johnson I know he had a poor test but he does have the ability to be good and the aussies have nothing to loose anymore.

I've seen very little of both of these bowlers but from what I have seen they both look better prospects than Bollinger, Hilfinhaus and Siddle.

A shake-up is exactly what's needed. Aussie players need to be reminded that they cannot rest on their laurels and rely on past glories. Only Hussey and Watson from the batsmen, and Harris from the bowlers have done enough to hang around, and Hussey's only just found his form. Watson is the first, and only dead cert name on the team-sheet for me!

I suspect the team may be:
1 Watson
2 Hughes
3 Ponting
4 Clarke
5 Hussey
6 Ferguson or White
7 Haddin
8 Smith
9 Harris
10 Bollinger
11 Siddle

Aren't England playing Victoria this week? If White scores runs he may sneak in.

I wouldn't rule out a return for Hilfenhaus & Johnson either.

There is still a part of me that thinks England will blow this series sand end up getting beat, I think it's because I have seen England fail so often in my lifetime and the Aussies fight back so hard.

However I'd rather be an England fan right now than an Aussie one!

Woulden't agree with that ^ , no wickettaking spinner, although i suspect hussey/white/smith coulden't possibly bowl worse than Doherty.

I think their batting is still strong and will copme good if given time (from that point of view it's unfortunate for them Katich is injured), so I imagine they'll pick a new opener (Hughes?) and possibly a replacement for North too.

Bowling wise their all over the place, I think they probablly need to pick 4 seamers (plus Watson) and just make do with batsmen who bowl on the spinner front, as they don't have anyone (with the possible exception of Hauritz) worth a place in the 11.

I'd go for

Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North/Khawaja/Ferguson/Smith
Haddin
Harris
Siddle

Then two from Hauritz/Hilfenhaus/George/Copeland/Clark etc depending on form and the wicket.
