Our love for stickers, why?
« on: December 20, 2010, 07:27:54 PM »

I've been wondering about this. What is our love of stickers all about? By purchasing a new bat and not removing stickers we are effectively paying a company to advertise their brand for free. Yet we crave stickers. Some of us to the point that we apply another brand's stickers to out bat. I don't get that myself, but each to his own.

Is it to do with prestige? Does a bat with a premium stickers make us feel better, even of the bat is a plank?

Hmm. Think I'm bored tonight.

Yes you must be bored jon! Would you but a bat if you thought it would be good quality but hated the stickers?

Busy day Jon? ;)

Some stickers are better looking than others I think. As long as the bat does what I want and meets my needs (ie; goes like the clappers) then I guess I can sticker it how I feel at the time.

If I disliked them visually but the bat was good I wouldn't hesitate.

If I had issue with the brand, perhaps not.

We stopped work on friday for christmas, plus we are virtually cut off in the village, unless I fancy doing the 11 mile walk again like yesterday. Legs are still a bit tight for that though.

why do people buy certain bats, pads, gloves, helmets?

brands sponsor pro players and aspiring young players want to be like them and look like them, often people buy stickers to emulate their favourite players.

its cheaper than buying a new bat and if you have a bat that you like its better than getting a new one

Yeh, it is nice to see kids trying to emulate their heroes.

Bit sad when a 40 year old does it though :D

Maybe it has the same effect (mentally) as getting a "pro" bat and using it?

Peer group pressure - at least amongst young (and some grown-up) kids?

Hi guys,

Definately emulating the heroes line. Perhaps because some of us are suckers for brands. Some we think look cool and modern (mongoose, perhaps); others that reflect quality (think Salix and Newbery); then, perhaps like the man who only drives a mercedes, wears a barbour jacket and armani glasses and a rolex watch, just has to use Grey Nicholls aswell.

Bats I've left stickers on?  h4l, m&h, newbery. Bats I've taken them off ? County, gn. Why? It just depends on whether I like the stickers.  I have bought non stickered bats if I liked the look of them.
