I don't think your supposed to go up to your knees when doing sit ups. Activates the hpi flexors?

Hmm interesting subject. There are in fact two typoes of fitness.

1. Physical Fitness
We all know about this and strive to improve. The older you get the more injuries old and new cause problems.

2. Mental Fitness.
This is area either totally neglected or totally over blown. Can you forget about that last play and miss immediately?
Think about it and answer honestly. When you as a player or umpire for that matter can live in the moment rather than dwelling on the past then you ahve a chance to make a gigantic leap forward in your progress to maximise your personal abilities.

There have been plenty of great techincal players who have failed because of mental fragilities and a great many ordinary players who have succeeded due to mental toughness.

The problem is that everyone believes they are an expert in mental preparation.

In relation to this I attended a seminar at Trent Bridge a few years back where they talked about the direct correlation between physical fitness and mental fatigue. Fitter players had greater mental strength as they didn't have to cope with the distraction of being overly tired during a long innings.

In response to Chaim's questions, last year I was doing 8 mile runs at 10 minute mile pace, so was running constantly for around 1 hour 20 mins. The i got married and got a bit lazy - have just starting training again and running 2 miles is proving hard work, but over time this should improve.

Before all this crap I've been put through over the past 6 months, I could run about 5km in 30mins or so. Currently, I can't run that far without getting tired. I can still do about 50 pressups in a minute, and probably about 70 situps.

The record at my school about 4 years ago was up at 75-80 in one minute, and that was held by a teacher... You mean the England Cricket side? well if you think about it, you don't need to be able to perform explosive movements like press-ups with your arms non-stop for a minute/2 minutes, at most for about 10-15 seconds (bowlers run-up, batsmen's shots, fielder's throw), so for me it would be almost irrelevant in that sort of situation.

no just say saying the fold not england but as a average most people struggle to do 3 sets of 20 press up wide arm or marine press ups in 1 minute never mind 2

I can run 13 miles in 90 minutes. And 26 miles in 3.5hours, although would have to train longer to 26 miles at the moment....too many mince pies!
Press ups? No idea - around 50 I guess as I dont practice them.
Sits ups - do plenty of them but not sure how many in one go!
Certainly not as many press ups and sit ups as procricket though :-)
Chins could only do a few as I have long arms and am around 17 stone - so not ideal for chins! Would struggle to get into double figures if I did them properly!!
