here are some pics, some might say it doesnt look to bad but further up from it the grain has been raised up. not what you need on your new bat.

Being where it is, I can't see it being a problem. If the crack ran up the blad then I'd be worried.

That said, it shouldn't come back looking like that when you have paid for a professional service. I'd get in touch and give them merry hell, you may get a few quid to shut you up. But in all honesty, if you get a bit of wood glue and put it in the crack, it isn't going to be an issue.

surly the toe is a vulnerable part of the bat? making it quite a big problem?

From my experience horiontal cracks like that rarely lead to problems. It is when the crack runs along the grain that splits can happen. I bet it is shallow enough to sand it off should you wish. Still worth seeing what they say though.

I hear that the knocking in machine up at dummer can be a bit fierce! I've seen a bat come back far worse than that :D!!!

It was a friends bat - he didnt seem to mind, but it certainly knocked it in - so much so that that it left massive indentations all over the bat!

Surely nothing a little superglue can't fix?

super glue may well fix it, but thats really not the point. the fact is why should i have to super glue a brand new bat?

You should get some sort of compensation for it for sure- surely they check the bat before sending them back to the owner? Did they keep quiet in the hope you wouldn't notice? I'd give write them a long email outlining your disappointment and what your expectations are, and follow it up with a call to confirm they received it and that you expected a conclusion within a certain time.
The crack doesnt look too bad, if it was my bat i'd give it a sanding to hopefully get rid and then fibbreglass it.
