Pad size

Just got my pads today and realised that the 2 pads are different widths. Anybody else realise this?

lead pad may have a wider side-wing?
never had any kook pads so don't know from experience

One has 1 more cane than the other and is slightly wider.

sounds odd, if its the lead leg then it may to give your front leg more protection than the back, as its more likely to be hit. thats just my speculation though

lead pad has 9 canes and the back has 7 and a half.

Lead leg also has a bigger side wings, pads are design to be worn with the buckles on the outside so the velcro points in

Actually, I've never known which way the pads go on. I usually have buckles on inside, but have done it on the outside of my legs, so I don't know which one is right. Do you reckon this is worth a topic/vote? :)

In my view all pads, but definitely the kook ones.
The reason is so that any left over strap isn't sticking out to be hit by the ball and have you given out, also so you don't get your buckles caught when running between the wickets. More an issue with buckles than modern straps, but the idea is the same.

With Velcro pads definately on the outside.

Back in the day of proper buckles, buckles on the inside.

I always have the buckle on the inside. On my old slazenger pads it was so the overhanging velcro didnt catch and undo my pads while running. On my new puma pads the straps are much shorter and so i dont need to worry about that. The pad design seems to point towards wearing the buckles inside so ive stuck with it.

ive had pads, with an extra pad above the knee role on the front leg meaning the extra bit of the strap that hangs over is on the inside but ofcourse u fold it so it doesnt hang over....  :) thats how ive always known them to be as people have said stop ball clipping the velcro and making the umpire think uve nicked it. and folding to stop the pads coming undone while rubbing...

Buckles now sit a lot flatter whearas with leather buckles they stuck out with the leather strap especially when you threded through the loop hence buckle on the inside to avoid being given out off the buckle.

I am sounding Old  :(
