Do I need a gym?
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:25:58 PM »

A few fitness related topics tonight and got me thinking. Do I need to sign up for a gym in order to get 'cricket fit' in terms of building muscles needed for cricket? Or can I do some sort of training at home?

I like to think of my physique as a 'blank canvas' so would like to turn myself into Shane Watson/Chris Tremlett at home :)

You can always get gym equipment for the house. I would suggest running and biking, and maybe investing in a pull-up bar and some sets of weights. Then you can think of other things to do to improve parts of the body..eg: I was doing sumos and lunges at home earlier, if you have space you can easily do press-ups, sit ups etc, I'd imagine :)

Yeah I'm lazy hence the lack of a gym membership lol. Sit-ups are ok, press-ups hurt my wrists but I do have some weights somewhere in the garage. I spose weights are the forefront of most things nowadays.

Damn I missed my 4000th post!!! >:(

Anyways, I don't fancy a gym membership for a number of reasons. Doing something at home would be better than nothing.

http://www.pitchvision.com/the-complete-guide-to-off-season-and-pre-season-cricket-training/

Quite a bit of stuff on there. Basically focussing on devloping explosive power rather than stamina (a handy excuse for shorter sessions :)  )

If you weren't going to the gym anyway, anything you do at home has got to be an improvment :)

resistance bands will do a good job of repeating cricket specific exercises. Grip strengtheners would be handy or a squash ball.

Get a heavy colly bat to work those batting muscles.

Lots of netting helps as well :-)

Ok, what about the main muscles used when batting that could be enhanced?
