If you use those press up bar things there's less strain on your wrists.

I always find that there are far too many distractions at home!
I can be focused on exercise, but the phone rings and its for me, or someone needs a hand with something, a friend pops in, cricket comes on the TV, etc, etc!! And all of a sudden you have lost focus and workout has gone down the pan!

Whereas with a gym, once I'm there, the only distraction is the leggy blonde in the tight lycra outfit!!  ;)
So I will always work out a lot more focused and I can always ask a personal trainer to take me through a workout specific to a sport!
The only time I work out at home, is going for runs in Spring/Summer. I always think to myself that I will go for a run and then do some press ups, cruches, and other exercises when I have done my run. But once the run is over, I jusr stretch and jump in the shower. But at the gym I am happier to do some weights and all round exercises aftert the treadmill! Plsu the treadmill has a little bounce in it, so it's kinder to my knees!
The one advantage the home would have over the gym for me is no lycra clad women working out at the same time distracting me, although that wouldn't be a bad thing!  ;)

Actually, another advantage home has over the gym for me is that I often go on the treadmill for an hour or more. So for longer runs it is far more interesting going out and running across fields and to other places. Whereas running on a treadmill for and hour or two get sooooo boring....even if there are lycra clad women around you!  :D

The only reason I stick to my gym is the Lycra women! Although Im not to sure seeing me wheezing like an asthmatic will really get them going.
Ive found the powerballs, great for building up forearm strength. General fitness still dont think anything beats a good run!

It's all about personal preference, and also what sort of price you can get for some cheap weights, a pull-up bar, resistance bands and some handgrips (nutcrackers Colesy ;) haha) I mean I do both, I pay £20 a month for my gym membership as I'm a student, and got a load of free stuff (trainers, £40 of maximuscle stuff) and it's a high quality gym, with the bonus of a sauna and steam room, and enough equipment that you're never waiting more than a minute for a machine/weights. Conditioning at home is good for those who don't have the time to trek to the gym, and there's even less waiting for equipment! As long as you've got somewhere with a bit of space (an empty garage is perfect for this) you should be fine. I'd recommend a barbell, a pair of dumbbells, about 40kgs worth of weights, hand grips, a pull-up bar, and... Actually, that sounds about right! Unless anyone can think of anything else... Bench presses, deadlifts, squats, press-ups, pull/chin-ups, and if you can get hold of one, medicine ball throws against a wall or the ground. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but that's a rough idea of what I was told by the PT at the gym!

Ah damnit, sorry Pete! Mine refuses to wear Lycra, and I don't have a garage, so it's a problem! But yes, if you can coerce a young lady to wander round your garage in Lycra, bending and stretching, all the better!

With a separate room for your bat museum... And then we would all join, and all would be right in the world... *dreams*

couldn't agree more with petehosk. unless you can get into a routine there is no point in going to the gym. but if you dont have the space at home your 'home gym' will be a bit rubbish and you will therefor be unmotivated. as or the kind of stuff you can do, i would just stick with the big compound movements and some HIIT training for cardio. and Tumo what about kettlebells? surely they would be good for cricket training as they focus on the back, core and legs?
