Do people keep their old bats?
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:41:26 PM »

May sound like a weird question, but I have kept all my bats (except 2) which have either broke or have been replaced.

Just wondered if other people do too.

not for me. If I break it then usually just give it to a junior at the club, but if I've finished using it and it's still got some life in it, then onto eBay it goes!

Yep, I've never thrown one out yet- even a dud kook I bought on eBay. Should probably burn the broken ones, but they hold a few memories so sod it - they're staying! :) (The kook will go though - I think its Kasmir)

I have one of my bats taped back together, then taped to another broken one to create some sort of 4lb weight :L

All the ones I've had for long enough to become attached to will never be binned.

Well they're back to front so wouldn't work. Just hold it in my left hand (top hand) and just and use it to control my swing

I have an old junior bradbury of mine, there was really no point selling as it was a tight grained beauty that went well but is now dead.

I also have my champ sports bat which I used last year, I am actually unsure whether I want to use my new redback instead of the champ next year

I wish I had kept my kookaburra blade though, I hit my first 50 with it in 2009, I sold it rashly on here to christian purchase and then it went to the finisher.

Would love to have it back.

I've been giving the old ones in various states of disrepair to various cricket charities. A couple recently went to Cricket for Change and Courtney Walsh Foundation. Even if they aren't great, they'll fix them up and it's better they have something to use rather than nothing.

(And the missus would rather not have them hiding in the loft!)

I keep some of my bats (certainly the one I scored my first ton with and the one I scored my highest score with I have in a safe place) otherwise I keep some bats and give others away or flog them depending on the demand for it and who is asking for it. to be honest though, I have become rather less sentimental about these things as I have got older. I should really send the bat I scored my first ton with back to county for a refurb/new stickers so I can put it on the wall in my study/shed/garage for posterity!

With my hockey equipment - I give all my old stuff away - usually to the colts section at my club, or my neighbour!

I have kept my very first bat a DF Gold, Which i hit my first 100 with, This is in my room, and I have also kept the bat in which scored me over 1000 runs in a season which was a Slazenger V600 Ultimate, I dont ever wish to get them refurbed as it will lose the cosmetic look of what it acheived.
