Morning all

In the name of R&D i forked out £112.00 for an Albion Ultimate 98 which was purchased thorugh Sports online on sunday evening...its turned up today which was a great turnaround time.

I was intrigued to see just how light the Ultimate 98 was with the "carbon fibre" shell now being used by Albion and their claims to be the lightest helmet on the market.

I broke out the trusty salter scales as have been previously used for such weigh offs!.....Ill let the pictures do the talking as below........

Albion Ultimate 98 with Ti grille

ACIS Elite with Ti grille

ACIS Premier with Ti Grille

I would be interested what others ACIS Premier/Elite helmets weigh that have them on here in various designs etc in comparism to our stock shells.

In summary

Albion Ultimate 98 = 804g
ACIS Elite = 648g
ACIS Premier = 701g

As a side note these helemts have the 2009 Ti grille on which is 174g comparred to our 2010 with was 150g...Also the ACIS Raw will be lighter again due to the fact is hasnt got any paint on it as such....I will weigh these once we have some back in the office.

You've got to be careful with the whole 'carbon fibre' claims made by some companies, not necessarily just in cricket. A rep told me some camera tripod manufacturers who produce alarmingly cheap 'carbon fibre' tripods just take a standard steel/ally frame and put a thin layer of CF on the top, so it looks the job. Totally reverse logic, as as we all know, the joy of CF is its relatively low weight.

About bloody time you cracked the whip Thomas!!
I love a good bit of R&D, especially when it runs in my favour. come on, you must have been super smug after that mate.  I would have been all over Albion with this!! William my good man you have just seen the Albion isn't as good as an Ayrtek, now stop being tight and buy a RAW!! We all know you have deeper pockets than you make out pal  ;) hahaha

Will you challenge their claim to be:

"Safest and lightest cricket helmet available - superior strength to weight ratio achieved using F1/ Aircraft design technology"

I think they are lovely mate, just really not my cup of tea regarding style that's all! Tom will be bossing the market soon enough I'm sure.
