Best ball for indoor nets
« on: February 02, 2011, 07:46:12 AM »

Hi there,

Our club has just started indoor nets and the place we use is just a local leisure centre, where a normal cricket ball pretty much dies straight off the pitch, with there being no bounce or pace on anything shorter than a half volley.

Do you guys know off any hard proper cricket balls where we'd get more bounce from them for the purpose of the indoor nets?

Many thanks.

sounds like its the nets that are the problem....

i guess the low bounce will be similar to the early season slow/low wickets so could be a good thing?

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

You can try Asian balls and they are really hard. This is due to the fact they are mainly made for concrete pitches but keep in mind these hard balls will damage the bats by a big margin!

We have something similar at the nets we use. The ball hardly ever bounces, unless you get one that catches the edge of the mat. Very slow, very low. Just like our early season pitch in fact, so it's not quite as bad as it seems.

To be fair, I go to two sets of nets and I prefer the Oval as the ball comes on a bit, but the slow low ones are far better for early season form!

Yeah, these "you don't really need pads" balls... Don't let them hit you on the kneecap...

One of our guys last year refused to use gloves or thighs unless we were playing certain teams who have bowlers that are quicker indoor than outdoor go figure
