My new SAF
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:00:51 PM »

Ordered this before Xmas, received it a maybe 3 weeks back, now finally getting round to putting up on here,

Saf Erus (grade 1)
10 grains, (1 heartwood)
Weight: 2'10
Edges: Not sure, diameter of a 50p coin though
Asked Andy for something that's good on the drive/slog, so he suggested lowish middle with offset edges,

Picks up well, doesn't feel like a pendulum when holding it, taps up well with the mallet (as well as my catalyst which was Nathan Mccullums 2 years back), only done 30 Min's knocking in so far but everytime i do a bit more its getting better and better.

(Photos off my iphone)

Just before the handle merges into the shoulders it goes into a sort of an upside down Y shape (which reminded me a little of the old GM that had sloping shoulders similar to the Newbery TT), not a critisism just wondered if that was a standard thing in SAF bats. or if razor had requested it like that.

Looking at the other pics it seems to be a feature of the SAF batsm just not something I's noticed before, possibly as post pics of them onthe forum are before a grips been added.

They look similar to Vantage and Redbacks, sloped, and mine in my room, and the Hunts on the website, I'm not sure what you mean mate?

Now I wish the forum had a draw option, can't be arsed cracking out pain at this time of night.

Maybe most (or all) bats have shoulders like that and I've just not notice, but from memory most of mine have had a straight handle right down to where the shoulders begin their curve.

Not sure that makes any more sense.

The wide angle lens used in the fourth short gives the impression the handle/grip is wider than standard where it meets the blade.

kulli i see what you mean mate, does look a bit odd. maybe its just the photo angles/combi grip accentuating the angle?

Its just a standard handle, oval at the bottom, round at the top, think the fact the grip under the combi is doubled up at the bottom probably accentuates the "Y" and the fact the photos have been taken with my iphone.

Have a 2nd bat to post on here in a day or 2

It is a standard shape may look bigger then it actually is but I think the handle shape is more then comfortable - razor2000nz can obviously confirm or deny this

Not too sure about that.  The white balance in the pics is very yellow (look at the handle) so it may simply be the photos.
