Massive bats but lightweight
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:43:15 AM »

With all this chat about low density/lightweight clefts, could an expert ie abAtmaker please clear this up?

Is it possible to get bats that, on viewing, one would assume they weight a fairly hefty 2 '10/'11, but in reality (with genuine scales) it weighs only 2 '8? It has a huuuge spine big edges etc etc. I saw pics of the new saf fabrica on the inaugeral willow thread and this looks to be in a similar ballpark...

How is this possible/ I assume the craftsmenship is important, but how can 2 bats look similar in amount of wood terms, and yet be quite far apart in weight terms?

Can batmakers/folks who work in the industry/ only please answer this thanks.

ps. if you can make me a big big bat that looks 2 '12 but is actually a 2 '7er then i'm interested! :D
