taking guard
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:47:52 PM »

Hi, just curious what other players do when taking guard -i am a right hander and i always go for middle and find myself often bowled or lbw. would this be improved by taking middle and leg or leg?

I take leg as I'm way stronger through the off side than the leg.

I find as a lefty middle is the best way forward, sometimes middle and off if a bowler is slanting across me or its 2020

Started off on middle moved on to middle & leg.  Might wanted to look at why you are being bowled / LBW (are you falling over/ pads in the line of the ball)

I have struggled with being LBW so changed to more upright to stop falling over & trusting my hands a bit more.  Rather than trying to be too correct.

Find out what works for you

Moved from middle to 2, couldn't be dealing with missing out on leg stump half volleys, hopefully gonna turn them into slightly move driveable deliveries!

I take middle as I think I am good on both sides of the wicket, and don't have a trigger, so Middle means that I can play all the shots I would like to. At least, that's what I hope/think... 8)

I would recommend "shadow" batting in front of a mirror, work out where your leading eye is - ie over an imaginary off stump from that and then see where your feet are - that will then give you your guard.

Actually better than that, when you are at your next net session - just get a team mate to line you up...

Owned Joe, haha. Are you really weak in comparison on the leg-side Tom. I guess you can put away the bad balls though? A case of defending stuff at your legs to piss the bowlers off, and then they'll bowl where you want, outside off...? Ask Buzz though, he'll know something!
