The ways of the "normal" cricketer...
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:52:56 PM »

It made me laugh how set in their ways and naive some of the "normal" cricketers are out there, and possibly some what boring! I dont include us on here as the normal breed!

I am saying this as i was asked to get a load of used bats for the quiz we had the other night and a list to email to 6 people yesterday as well for people to browse over.

I originally took down:

Mongoose MMI (**)
Black cat (**)
Kookaburra kahuna
Kookaburra Ice (*)
GN Powerbow
My redback (**)
a blank

interestingly all the ones i considered the best ones are makred with a (**) and not bad to be (*)

Now they all had a ponder and guess which ones sold, all the kooks, the gn and the blank, leaving the best 3 left, except my redback all the prices were the same...

I then emailed the remaining list out to people that wanted the list and included a redback premier and a salix pod one grade one (not in the very best nick i will admit could do with a teeny bit of tlc) and included a pretty shabby gn evo

And again prices were all the same give or take £10 and the evo was the only one that sold! and a few requests for a kook or adidas bat....

I was somewhat gobsmacked and wondered whether i was looking at these bats weirdly but low and behold they are all being snapped up well on here!

In conclusion, normal cricketers are odd, and dont like to try naything they havent heard of, maybe an influence of the tv and players? or just plain boring people?!

Perception Sam

I did a experiment last year with 2 bats one the laver the other a Kookaburra blade lower model.

My mate tapped them all up i told him the Laver was bought from a jumble sale for 50 poiund and the Kook from Romida for 150.

He tapped them both up and said yes you can feel the difference the kook in his eyes was the winner by a mile, yet i new it was a kashmir piece of crap.

The truth is most people i think do not know a good bat and most do not care either..

Most people do not know how to judge a bat and to be fair is there a right way.

It was interesting i asked my mate how he judges a bat he said a good middle

I judge very differently i judge the 6-8 inches either side of the middle to find the size as i think most planks have middles.

Horses for courses i guess but as you know the Laver yourself Sam i think my mate need's to go back to the drawing board.

Guess it like pro bats are they any better than a normal bat perception says yes but in truth i have found most pro bats as good as a normal bat the odd one is special though

Stickers are the important thing most cricketer do not care were a bat comes from...

I only originally signed up to the forum looking for reviews of the COR3!

It's been a bit of an eye opener, especially with Aussie bat pricing I never thought I'd buy anything higher than a grade 2 once upon a time.

Just goes to show the sponsorship dollars are doing the job!

The great thing in hitting is, not to be half-hearted about it; but when you make up your mind to hit, to do it as if the whole match depended upon that particular stroke.

tbh si, its not too bad for a GN but still would prefer to buy a special bat for an extra 50 quid.

I guess everyone strives to be happy with their kit, whether they necessarily don't get the best deal or otherwise, so who cares where it comes from or what it is?

Presume it is why companies invest to build their reputation.  So they are recognised for a quality product.

Even though we know that their are some cracking bats from smaller brands, it knowing which ones thanks to this forum
