having problems with bat feelings...
« on: February 15, 2011, 10:21:52 PM »

hey lads,

trying to sort my kit out for next year, especially bats. And basically i leave my bats around my house in random places to be honest. i walk around my house picking them up and playing a few shots (sounds really weird i know) and ill pick one up and it will feel really good but then ill return to the same bat five minutes later for it to feel terrible :S

whats up? is it to do with me, like a mental approach or something? or muscle fatigue ( i thought it could be this, but theres a five minute gap) any help is greatly appreciated, even just a few reasons i could possibly blame :)

I literally have no idea.... as long as it doesn't feel different in a match situation after a drinks break or soemthing then your fine.

Worry more about ur technical ability and skill level than what it is ur using! U can have the best bat in the world but it's still going to be limited by your ability to use it at the end of the day

im having a similar problem with bats atm as I used a bat at 3lb 4oz last season and now 2lb 12 because i could not hold it let alone play a shot with it !
I think it must be no cricket for 5 months worn down muscles !

Leave mine all over the house until the missus goes ballistic!  ;)
I pick one up and feel it to decide which one I may use next. And meanwhile the missus picks one up and feels it to decide which bat she's going to wrap around my head!!  :(

haha pete :L where do you actually manage to hide them? i doubt they all fit in the garage or something?

and thanks guys, im not too worried about technique i just find it odd how it keeps sort of changing, might be soemthing to do with having four very different bats :S

It does happen, the best example I know is that Hayden has 6 bats and picks the one which feels right on the day. In his autobiography he was saying that the bat he used for his 380 against Zimbabwe felt like a plank the week before.

when you say you "leave" then around the house do you mean you line the house and walls with them you have so many!?!!

i find once youve picked up a bat lighter than yours when you go back to the heavier one it wont feel so good after youve felt the lighter one......

I think people worry about the stupidest things on this forum.

As mentioned above, when you get you gloves on and go out to bat, the adrenalin will be pumping and it wont matter what bat you have,(cough is it that a sacrilegious statement on this website?) especially if you have rubbish technique and temperament...

It tends to be when your out of form that the bat feels heavy or not right but in form it feels like an extension of your arm waiting till a few matches to decide on my match bat
