The likely candidates to achieve 'match bat' status
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:30:41 PM »

With only one more arrival expected in the immediate future (which shall be added when it arrives), these are the chosen ones to be first tested when nets start. Quite possibly the lineup will change several times before the season.

1. Salix Fera (see other thread)

2. Mjolnir SPS (2'11 but could pass for lighter). A bat that gives confidence.

3. Goodwin GT. Biggest bat I've ever seen, regardless of it's weight.

4. New Talisman stunner. 23 straight grains of intended-for-mystery-pro goodness. May hold this one back for a while.

5.H4L Hattori 5*. Will be used for at least the early season low bounce tracks.

Lovely collection I must say! Seems like the Hosk has some competition, although you still have a fair way to go...

Thought you had another Talisman as well that had about 2 meter edges, did that not deserve match bat status?

Love your salix's as well. Some serious retro stuff in there. Have you been down there and got one made up? Went down there a while ago, is good fun seeing a bat made up. Shame mine split beyond repair and delaminated, otherwise i'd still be using it! Although I assume not much gets made their anymore with demand increasing...

Really nice selection there jon. Gonna have some tough decisions when the season gets here! Ordered myself one of those Hattori's yesturdays, looking forward to its arrival.

The other Talisman is a bit heavy to be considered as a long term match bat. Perhaps on the right day though...

Never been to Salix, as much as I like their product the people can be a bit difficult and I've known people to drive 3 hours down there only to wait 2 hours for their appointment which lasts only 15 minutes, be given a very poor range of willow to choose from and not able to even take your bat home with you. So not really for me.

You won't regret it. Mine isn't the best looking example but it reacts as well as anything else off the mallet.

I remember that Jon mentioned he may use one of those old Salixes of his. And I doubt his views on Laver have changed. He's right to an extent. With the amount of money that you spend, you need quality - I reckon if a top top looking cleft came his way he may buy it... :)
Though it's a shame all of these had to go Jon.. :(
