Title: Rain
Post by: Talisman on May 07, 2011, 06:59:21 AM
Why do we get 6 completely dry weeks and then heavy rain on the day of the first league match?

Why?

Why oh why?

Seriously, why?

Its our 1st game today as well. Rain due at 3pm. I have to work so I won't feel too gutted when it's abandoned!!!
On the weather front Bristol seems to be crap in may and august.
And for some strange reason Monday to Friday always seems fine and the weekends hot n miss. The joys of English weather!

We've had 2 weekends of cricket and last Sunday started Wessex league but this was the first Saturday league, been raining since about 10pm last night and forecast heavy showers until 4 this afternoon when it will be merely light showers.....

Rained heavy over night here and raining heavy tonight from about 9pm apparently. maybe some showers throughout the day too, typical! I'm hoping BBC weather is wrong like usual, but i bet they are right today

1st league game and its crap here! Now thanks to some poor fixture organising and weak friendly opposition I have batted about 6 overs (29*) and bowled 2 (1.5 1w 2r) in match conditions!

Not the best start to a season!

We started the league 2 weeks ago and in the first game we were saved by a thunder storm. We were getting thrashed but because of the crazy draw points system we came out with a winning draw and 2 less points than the opposition.

I think that will be the saving grace for many grounds today is the complete lack of rain recently. It will just get sucked up into the pretty dry ground and with some decent temperatures plus a warm wind, alot of cricket will get played.

not due to play today, as I'm a one game a weekend man, and the selection committee decided the want me to play in the cup fixture tomorrow instead - however, in return for being responsible for our toddler all day, the missus had given me a pass out to go watch all day (Henry quite enjoys watching too, and it means he can run around and play) - not sure today's going to be watching weather though, and as or my cup game? well the forecast is worse for tomorrow!

It rained - we only lost one over, and then we dicked the opposition - by 5 wickets.

Had the pleasure of watching RocoDa Pixie keep for us for 51 overs (not bad at all!)  and then open the batting and put away a selection of longhops for a nifty 30.

13 points in the bag on a rainy day - niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!

no problems in sunny yorkshire, had a bit of a rain about 1pm, but soon went away. It's been pretty muggy overcast/hazy if that makes sense. Bowled the oppo for 113 and did it for 5 down, poor by our standards but the wicket did a bit all day and it tends to level things up.

Title: Re: Rain
Post by: mdl_1979 on May 07, 2011, 10:20:11 PM
Bowled out for 148 on a wet deck.  I grafted hard for 7, then slapped one straight to mid on.  We had the oppo 32-3 then one of our lads put down a sitter.  Had he held that they would have been 4 down with over 100 needed.  As it was the 4th wicket partnership put on 115 to take the game away.  Then we took 3 wickets for 0 just to make it more annoying.

2 league game now - 86 all out last week, and 148 all out this week.  And we would consider ourselves a batting team.  Totally blows.  And today was 9 years since my dad died.  And Seve died.  Awful day.

Thanks for the offer but we cant install a artificial pitch at our ground as we only rent it off a school and it is used as a camoige pitch during the winter. I played on one in Midleton last weekend and it was a pitch of 2 halves. One end had lovely bounce and the other had no bounce . They paid €6,500 for it

Was chucking it down last night, didn't mind as I didn't really feel like playing today... :(
But now it's stopped and is fairly sunny. Will be interesting to see what happens though, might be showers later on.
I expect this is a win-the-toss-and-bowl job though :)
Got North London so hopefully we can beat them...

Absolutely baking today - hopefully this will dry our wicket out into the quick bouncy track it was before the rain, and the outfield back to lightning quick, although i wouldn't mind the outfield staying a bit soft seeing as ive been tearing myself to shreds on it :/

I hope so too! My game relies on timing as I'm still not all that strong...due to the wet wickets the last couple of weeks I haven't been able to use the pace. :(
Highgate's pitch is a fantastic batting track when it's harder as well! Come on SUN! :D

Post by: A-Swing-And-A-Miss on July 16, 2011, 09:28:45 AM
Expecting a call from the skipper to say it is off any minute now. It hasn't been raining that heavily but I live in Norfolk and looking at the BBC weather forecasts the rain is supposed to stop for most of the country by about midday ish but stay with us for the entire day.

Not sure if I want it to be on or not. We are on a good run and as a team have scored our highest scores in the last 2 games (199 for 7 and 210 for 4) plus I took a 5-fer in the last match and am hoping to continue the good bowling. However if it got called off I would have a more relaxing birthday today.

Both of my games were of this weekend.
Not a bad thing yesterday as were top of league and get to keep our average. the big one in 2 weeks. 1st vs 2nd, Cranborne cc Vs Ferndown Wayfarers cc.
Who ever wins the game should then win the league. Tense stuff

One on the 2nd last race of the day, i got the horse when it was 9/1 and just before the race it came in at 7/2 so made a profit, but cause the weather was shoddy, i spent most of my day in the bar getting cheap drinks off my mate who works there so, good day all round

Both games rained off Saturday and Sunday. No play at all Sat, but fielded for 3 overs in a 1 ov. spell and a 2 ov. spell before it pissed down at Winchmore Hill and we got called off.
Disappointed as I was playing against Jim Gatting in a reduced Chess Valley League game (26overs) so I wanted to see what he could do... :(

I know, I was going like hot cakes until the 5th of June, since then the rain has kicked in and tracks have become damp :(
I like to use the pace, but when there is none coming off the pitch and it is 2-paced I hate it :(
Going away on the 2nd August and then hopefully when I come back on the 24th the tracks will be better :)

Got called up to the 1sts today, due to an uneven amount of teams in the league and weather I have had 3 away games on the trot 'til today. The 1sts were playing at home but somebody forgot to put the covers on which meant the game was cancelled after 1 over. Sadly unless I can persuade the captains at my club to drop me down to the 2nds it looks like it will be 4 away games in a row, which is ridiculous  >:(
