When i went into my local one last week they had a fair amount of mid-range GN Bats. Took a liking to a Nitro 5* @ £92 which is fairly cheap isnt it? Felt good when i was knocking a ball on it although i didnt buy it, very tempted to go back and see if its there and use it for next season as it was a big bat for 2lb 7oz.

Also had this years GM original LE gloves for £40 which i also thought was good...

Some good deals on their Slazenger bats, they're usually quite expensive.

               Evo Carbo @ £80
Powerbow & Evo Atomic's @£100

went into sports direct in Yeovil on tuesday, they had 1 bat. A crap slazenger that had 10mm edges and felt about 3lb. But, they have GN Evo 1000 gloves for £27 and the Evo 1000 pads for £40' a full set of top softs for £67! Also had some GM 909 D30 gloves and some GN Nitro 5 star pads and gloves cheap

All this chat about end of season deals and sales got me all excitied yesterday, so I decided to do some research. Looked at my journey home and to my delight I foud that there was a SD shop in Newbury Retail Park, a mere 5 minutes out of my way!! It had to be worth the slight detour with all these Oblivions and other temptations with a tiny price tag attached!!
So I eagerly drove to the retail park and spotted the shop quickly. Found a parking space almost outside - that must be a sign.....they knew I was coming and had a handful of Oblivion powerhouse bats and a few Evo carbos and Slaz bats lined up for me to buy.....obviously!!!  8)
I strolled in and a helpful young lady kindly took me upstairs (it's been a while since that has happened!  ;) )

And tucked away at the far side was the cricket gear, right in between the larger section of hockey and footy!
And me being me, looked straight at the bats! The collection there reminded me of ebay - several bats mainly being Kashmir Willow! The pick of the bunch was a Kookaburra Kahuna 150  :(
My shoulders slumped and I felt an overwhelming sense of disappointment!
I even looked at the softs....oh dear! No better!!
So my quest to find a reasonably priced Oblivion continues!  ;)

Hope everyone else finds a better selection that I did.

My local sports direct in Sheffield also has pretty much bugger all cricket wise. Certainly none of the good stuff like the GM LE gloves that someone posted earlier - shame this isn't on the website.

Also quite disappointed that the GM LE original pads are only small mens as these look really good and are a bargain (no good for me though as I'm 6'3).

2'10 is for 1st XI or if I'm opening. 2'13/14 is when batting 4/5.
Plus I'm not getting any younger!  ;)

I got this little lot.... Oops:

These Slazenger Bats are rubbish and cheap are they? Well, I'd agree that they are certainly Cheap, and these are all pretty damn good bats...

These are an iBlade Pro, a V3 Pro, a Pure Blade Ultimate, a Pro Blade Elite Pro and a Power Blade Ultimate.

None of these is a particularly small bat, as you can see from the profiles:

Wasn't an expensive one. Was got mainly to have a go with an iBlade after someone saying it was an interesting bat. It's bleached but it actually has 8 grains and some marks on the front. It weighs 2lb9oz and picks up like it weighs 2lb11oz. Has a very low middle with some interesting "Power Profile" shaping. It's not a plank, but as it's grade 4 willow, it doesn't have the largest middle.

Would you sell the V3 mate?
Only if someone paid £140 including P&P.

You might, but I've bought it, weighed it and taken the risk, and it wasn't half that to buy...

You however are buying a bat that is in good condition, comes from a seller with  half decent feedback and allows you to understand exact weight and condition. So really, you aren't taking a chance. If you wish to operate in that fashion, where you take a chance, you are welcome to use ebay, but as you asked, I gave you an honest answer.

I agree 100%!!
If a get a bargain after taking a huge risk that it may be a plank, and it turns out to be a beauty, then why do people expect you to pass that bargain price on without any risk taking themselves! (I don't mean you personally Reds!)
If I purchased shares at a risky but low price and their value went up, then I wouldn't go and sell them for the same price I paid for them!! You sell them for what they are worth at that time!  8)

tbh that's why I rarely sell any JJB/SD bargains on here. Members are savvy enough to know what the bat cost, but at the same time they expect you to take the risk of purchasing and pass on the bat at cost price (if it's a good example). Ebay is still the best place to shift this stuff as the market price for a bat is determined by what people believe it's worth. For that reason I often start my auctions at 99p.

If CBF wanted to set some market prices or guidelines for those wishing to sell these bargains on then I would offer them here first. Makes me sounds like a trader lol, I've only sold 4/5 bats ever!

That said, my team mates are the worst buyers in the world. They expect you to buy the bat, them to net with it, then to play a half dozen matches with it before deciding if they want it and expect you to sell it to them for £30. I saw a beautiful GM Flare 707 for £44.99 in JJB and texted 3 of my mates who desperately needed a bat with pics and not one brought it, or even the £25.49 GM Oblivion with those hidden good grains.

How do sports direct manage to sell stuff so cheap. As an example the GM original LE gloves that I got recently for about £29 had an original price of about £70, now I assume sports direct got a load of them cheap from somewhere presumably for something like £15 a pair so they have a decent margin for resale.

Do they get stuff like this direct from the brands or from other stores? If its direct from the brands then surely it would make more sense for them to sell them cheap themselves (of course they may not be able to do this for image reasons or perhaps not being allowed to undercut the retailers they supply).

Just thinking that I'm sure if the brands offered their old stock for sale on somewhere like here I'm sure they'd get snapped up for a better price for them and for us. I'd be more than happy to pay GM direct for the gloves I just bought if they had some sort of end of season offer.

Of course I have no experience of working in retail so all my comments might be daft but hopefully not.

It is far easier for the brands to sell off stock in volume to a retailer than have to sell off individual items themselves to the consumer. They can get rid of surpluses in one go and concentrate on their new ranges. It is what any supplier of any volume does in pretty much any industry.

It wasn't that the one I ordered was a dog, it was simply that it was in terrible condition and had been roundly abused, and the discount they offered for the damage wasn't worth it.

Cheere Pete & Cover Drive!

Think I've got too many gloves now after yesterday's spending spree!!

I've already got two pairs of Puma Iridium 5000 gloves, pair of GN 5* xiphos gloves and two pairs of GN Powerbow Test gloves!! Add my new GM collection, I'll have 6 sets of different gloves to choose from!!!

Is this following helmet Albion Ultimate 98 or prototype of it?

If Ultimate 98 then it is a bargain price really.

Hmmmm, tempted by a bottle green one.
Not as big a fan of Albion as I am Masuri, but it must be worth a go for less than £40

I took a punt on one which arrived yesterday, it's the Ultimate Classic version which I have seen elsewhere with a RRP of £85.  Seems quite comfortable and light so far but obviously haven't batted in it yet  :)

Frustrating that they seem to be the only place in the UK with the GN Matrix available on pre-order albeit the '350' version.

I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these for ages but don't want to import from Aus.  >:(

Wonder if this will be introduced to next years range the same as the F18 was this year...

Pretty sure matrix is gone next season from our range, had a quick look at next seasons range the other day.

Oh well, I just couldn't justify the import / potential custom charges getting one sent over here..

How's the new range looking?

Yeah it is mate.
I got the 2013 helmet sent with the smaller grille that can't be moved up of down.

The newer ones have a closer knit carbon fibre and a bigger grille that gives more coverage of your chin(s)

Only had a look at some pics but looked good, an old favourite makes a return. The exchange rate has swung back round in favour of the UK guys now plus I know there will be a few specials in terms of the matrix coming up, might not be as expensive as it seems.

Will keep my eye out for some potential deals then.  :)

Noticed on a recent video on YouTube what looks to be some of the new range but couldn't make it out fully, you can see the Omega with different decals and what looks to be a Fusion to the right possibly?.

Fairly full, highish spine, it's their only bat with more traditional curved face.

The pervading feeling I have from that photo is the size of the bats. they're enormous (qualified by the fact they could be 5lb and like granite).

SD doing 10% discount on all Slazenger cricket kit to celebrate Jimmy beating the wickets record.

Use code JIMMY10 at checkout, apparently only for limited time but doesn't say how long that is

Great news! I might get full kit -  I'd love to be able to bat like Jimmy does after today  :(

Nipped in SD, in the centre of England's fourth biggest city. Two Slaz bats at £85, and a pair of pads.  :o :o
